I feel like you would really like this artist name YEBBA, she sings so heavenly she doesn’t have much songs but the ones that she does are so so good I feel like you would fall in love 😂PS love your channel!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
Some backstory on Metallica: They formed in 1983, about 13 years after that Sabbath you were listening to. They were one of the bands that started Thrash Metal, the heaviest, fastest music that existed in the early 80s. Thrash is the genre the later, more extreme genres (the growly stuff you refer to) stemmed from. (Fun fact 1: Paranoid by Black Sabbath was an early example of what would become the Thrash sound. Metallica's lineup from their first record on was: James Hetfield - vocals & rhythm guitar Kirk Hammett - lead guitar Cliff Burton - bass guitar Lars Ulrich - drums (Fun fact 2: their first lead guitarist was a guy named Dave Mustaine. He got kicked out for being a violent drunk, then went on to form Metallica's biggest competition, Megadeth. I'm sure you'll encounter them soon.) After their 3rd record, & their breakthrough, Master of Puppets, Cliff died in a tragic bus accident while on tour, & was replaced by Jason Newsted, which is the lineup here on the Black Album. This was their biggest selling record, and the best selling Metal record of all time. It's sold over 30 million copies. On this one, they refined & slowed down their sound quite a bit. That's right, they used to be wayyyyyyy faster than this. 😁 If you want a recommendation on where to go next, I'd definitely say Master of Puppets. While The Black Album is definitely their most successful, Master is seen as their greatest achievement, their pinnacle & a candidate for greatest Metal album of all time. It isn't my personal favorite, that's And Justice For All, the album that came between Master & The Black Album, but for historical reasons I'd absolutely say Master first. It's the Goat, the perfect next stage for your musical palate after Paranoid and this. No satanic growls (lol) just a much more intense version of everything you loved about this, all turned up to 11.
"Thrash Metal, the heaviest, fastest music that existed in the early 80s. Thrash " I'm going to nerd out a bit here and say that Thrash metal was a slight step back from the mentality of going harder and faster that the hardcore punk bands before them had. You already had bands like Discharge before thrash metal (there's a reason why Metallica cites themas an influence). Combine that with the early heavy metal of Motörhead (who had similar ideas but coming from rock&roll and metal instead of punk), and born was an entire era of crazy punk bands like Charged GBH, Disorder, Kaas, Chaos UK, etc... which in turn gave rise to Thrash Metal but also other styles like d-beat, crust punk, grindcore, thrashcore (which when combined with Thrash Metal again became Crossover Thrash). Thrash metal was arguably the least heavy and fast of all those brothers, focusing a little bit more on groove. The late 70s and early 80s are really interesting to learn how punk & metal kept influencing each other. And how fast everything went without the internet, like you had bands releasing a demo in one year and the year after there's already a new band releasing albums citing the previous band as a direct influence.
1981 was when they officially formed. For youngsters in their 20's they changed entire music genres. Only Act in history to play on every Continent! A Mount Rushmore Band in All of Music!
53:55 That was James, the singer, & rhythm guitarist. he was brought up in the Christian Science religion, & they don't believe in going to the doctor. If you get sick or injured, god will heal you. Well, James' mother got cancer, refused treatment & died, leading to years of trauma, resentment & turmoil for James.
@Metal-Midgar he has jesus tattooed on his arm actually and crosses so I would say otherwise but yeah he does believe in a higher power yes. When I was saying he's Christian too I didn't mean christian science or religion just more that he believes
YOU HAVE TO DO MASTER OF PUPPETS OR RIDE THE LIGHTING PLEASE ITS SOME OF THE BEST SOLOS EVER TO EXIST(the guitarist is Kirk Hammett who does the solos)
We get it bro. I mean, there's a reason why certain rappers have metal bands on the side. A well known example is Ice-T, he has heavy metal band called Body Count. They listened to metal and rock bands, got inspired and were like "yup, we're doing this as well now". And yeah there's many different styles of metal, just like in hiphop. And some you will love and others you will hate or be indifferent towards, but we don't want to overload you with too much info. You'll figure it out as you discover them.
At about the 56 minute mark you asked about the God that Failed. The singer, James, comes from an extremely religious background. His mother was having a lot of issues with her health and the church convinced her that prayer was all she needed and not medicine so much. His mother ended up dying, and that is what inspired the song.
okay let me say you need to watch some of their live concert videos, specifically oakland 1985 day on the green or moscow 1991 where they played to a crowd of 1.6 MILLION people!! they are insanely talented, rip to cliff burton, the original and iconic bassist, who sadly passed away while they were on tour in 1986 and had a car accident, only 24 :(
You just reacted to one of the best produced, written and executed albums in history! Glad you enjoyed it. I enjoyed watching and hearing the album again. Master of Puppets NEXT!!!
I had this CD running in my car for three years straight. 🔥 fire fire. Welcome to the world of organic music and not digital creations! I just discovered your channel tonight. Instant subscriber. There's nothing like watching someone being mind blown for the first time. You have so many more bands to discover! And yes, if you can rock all the way through the black album, you're a rock head. Cut your teeth on Panteras Cowboys from hell. You're fun! Keep up the positive vibe! And thank you for saying my goodness! Struggle within grows on you, it's fire!
Like other music genre, Metal has so much to offer. The energies, emotions, will take you on so many journeys. You'll have to find your own way, and Metal Family will always be there for you thru the good and bad. Don't take it to literal and find your own interpretation in the music. Enjoy!!!
And another thing man.. you should do all the albums like this one... full album review as you will get to understand how every song leads into the next.. keep it up man glad to have you on board the Metal ride.
You should know that death growls don't equal satanism. Gaylord's lyrics are mostly about antifascism and green lung's lyrica are mostly about specifically theistic satanism and you'd be surprised which one sounds aggressive and screamy and which one sounds smooth and chill
You need to listen to The Doors. In specific When the musics over, Five to One, Moonlight Drive, The unknown soldier (Live at the hollywood bowl). Seriously some of the most thought provoking music ever released
Megadeth's my favorite band, I recommended that eventually he should listen to Rust In Peace by em, I don't know if bro will like the lead singer's voice though 💔 (Instruments go so HARDDD though)
You gotta do their early stuff that shit is awesome. James Hetfield is the rhythm guitarist who is a beast at making tight and aggressive riffs. Kirk Hammett is the lead guitarist and he is responsible for all of the amazing guitar solos. Lars Ulrich is the drummer. Jason Newstead is their bassist and he was an energy force during their live shows. This album is so damn good. Idc what anyone says
A nice introduction into growling vocals would be these 2 songs. It's about the lyrics with growling and what feeling the vocalist is trying to convey. Killswitch Engage - The End of Heartache & Slipknot Duality
So I have two requests that couldn’t be more opposite of each other but I have been dying to see you react to both. Rage Against The Machine (self titled album or Evil Empire, prob self titled first since it’s their debut) and Gracie Abram’s- The Secret of Us. Pleeeeease
I watch a lot metal and rock based reactions and i have to say you are one of my favorites ever! Your reactions made me think that i wish i could hear metallica the first time again. I can nothing else than recommend to listen next Master of Puppets, Ride the lightning and The justice for all. And if you eventually listen to all the albums, you can hear and see the evolution of Metallica from the 80s to today because they are still doing music after 40 years! At age of 60+!
You have hands down one of the greatest reactions to metal music 🤘🏼Since you loved this album you should listen to Pantera especially their album Cowboys From Hell. Don’t let the title scare you, it’s a fantastic album. You’re going to get your mind blown!
Aww JEEZ! You NEED 'Megadeth - Rust in Peace' in your life STAT. (Also you will probably understand the 'growl' eventually if you keep enjoying metal. Once you get to certain stuff it's a grey area that's hard to escape from, and you will end up loving SOME style of growl. You'll see
Welcome to the metal (and Metallica) world, my friend! It’s a vast genre and as you mentioned some of it you won’t like and that’s okay. But there’s a LOT to choose from! And Metallica is the king. Enjoy, brother! 👊
This album is a unicorn. Every song is ridiculously great. Master of Puppets by this same band is another crazy album. It deals with some very, very heavy topics though. I love watching people discover this music. Some people consider “Nothing Else Matters “ as the perfect song, perfect melody.
Great video. The cuts when Metallica songs are repetitious (for those that have had heard them already) saved us all time yet we still got reactions for the good stuff. Yes, Master of Puppets album must be next. Then I'll like and subscribe. :D
32:05 haha he’s actually doing that with his feet. He plays the note like normal and at the same time hits the “Wah” pedal with his foot and it makes the not bend and twist to give it that “waaaah” sound. Studio electric guitars are much more complicated than just a guitar a wire and an amp. Also, Don’t Tread On Me is an ode to this wonderful country.
FINALLY! Good first choice its a tamed choice for a metal album but if you really wanna hear METALLICA try out (MASTER OF PUPPETS) ALBUM. Also that one part where the guitar goes crazy in the middle of song is called a "Solo"
Dude.. the t-shirt you got on is a song called DAMAGE INC which is a song on the album Master Of Puppets which is considered by many to be the best Metal album of all time.. check it out as it's fast as fxxk.
RU-vid gave me your channel randomly, I'm for the first time here obviously. I really enjoyed you vibing to the older Metallica. While the music is great, James Hetfield, in my opinion, is an amazing poet and singer. He carries this album all the way through.
If you’re new to metal none of us expect you to be into Cattle Decapitation yet. Ease into harsher vocals. Something like killswitch engage, all that remains or trivium may be a good starting point.
I think you might like cowboys from hell by pantera, they’re groove metal. It’d be awesome if you checked the song and or the album out! They are a bit more on the heavy side compared to this album though lol. love the content man keep the great work up!❤
50:26 - LOL. During Of Wolf and Man - "I'm 'bout to turn into a f*king beast!". If he didn't say that on purpose, that is a classic case of the subconscious mind poking through verbally.
As for the 'growl', not a big fan here either, BUT there are bands and songs that use it very well and in good places. Not all 'growl' in music is like you think, just like metal in general is not as you thought. You pigeon holed yourself your entire life to this point about Rock/Metal and now finding out it is actually good. You should just keep an open mind, don't pre-judge before you hear it. My mom would tell us at diner "You have to at least try a bite, if you not like it you do not have to eat it, there is always Peanut Butter, don't mess up my kitchen". I have approached life in this manner also, found a lot I did not like, but every now and then I found a morsel.
Great album, my mom listened to a lot of rock including Metallica so I just grew up loving them. Enjoying the difference genre reacts. Recommendations: Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd, you'll love the guitar solo. Honestly any Queen. Their music is unique and Freddie has a phenomenal voice. Greatest hits album maybe? If you want a completely different genre: Chris Stapleton country/blues. His live performance of Cold is 🤌
5:40 people call it a guitar solo, but it's actually the lead break, because the song takes a break and the lead guitarist is front and center while the other band members keep the rhythm for them. a solo would be one instrument playing and no others.
You have to do Metallica's first four albums! Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and ...And Justice For All. Works of art, much like this album. Also try out Rust in Peace by Megadeth and Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park!
Metallica’s first 4 albums are perfection, you can’t go wrong with any of them. Also check out Megadeth - Rust in Piece, one of if not the “best” metal albums of all time.
Honestly the best next album from them may be Master of Puppets. It'll have more fast bangers like Through the Never off this one, and there's a beautiful instrumental piece midway through. Master of Puppets was released in 1986, whereas this one was released in 1991.
Rage Against the Machine will probably be one of your favorite bands of all time if you give them a listen. Zack has bars for lyrics delivered excellently, but you will need lyrics. Tom Morello on guitar does some things that nobody has ever done with a guitar and rivals DJ scratch skills. The self-titled album is a great place to start. For an album released in 1992 if you pay attention to the lyrics throughout you will find it crazy relevant today.
5:40 is actually not called a riff, it’s called a guitar solo, a riff is actually what you hear in the beginning of enter sandman, when it repeats the same group of notes, I also love the video man, I totally recommend Deftones or megadeth: rust in peace
Assuming you haven't heard any metal execpt Sabath and Metalica you should listen to Appetite For Destruction by Guns n' Roses if you haven't already heard it, its less metal and more rock but it is one of the albums of all time. Also Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd is like a sort of psychedelic & more soft rock but it is so iconic. And lastly Pronounced 'Leh-'Nerd 'Skin-'Nerd by Lynyrd Skynyrd is a southern rock album but i'd say it has a few of the best rock songs of all time. Just some suggestions from someone raised on rock.
I think most of the "popular" metal bands (Metallica, Megadeth, Avenged Sevenfold, Iron Maiden, Pantera etc) don't do the "growly vocals" like, say Cannibal Corpse, Cattle Decapitation or Napalm Death
If you liked Sabbaths Paranoid you should give Sabotage by them a listen. Blows Paranoid out of the water in my opinion. Heavier riffs, better solos, better vocals/lyrics. The end of Symptom of the Universe can nearly make me tear up. Cheers buddy long road of rocknroll ahead of you. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Heavy metal is the soundtrack to genxs nightmares😂 My playlist includes Master of puppets the whole damn thing ride the lightning same thing Moscow, 1991 Antarctica , 2013 S&M 1&2 Hardwired to self desruct All the instrumentals...yes all of em. Fight fire with fire That was just your life Some kind of monster... the song and the documentary Oh and that is Kirk Hammett our riff Lord and shredding savior 🎸🎸🎸
Gotta do ‘Master of Reality’ by Sabbath which is the album following Paranoid and my god it’s a banger. Paranoid and Master of Reality are two of the best metal records of all time
Bro your peeps should have told you to React to this live in Moscow 1991 1.6 million people and the Rumor is the people in the front are just getting Back to there cars 😅 if you want your channel to grow fast Go Down this Rabbit Hole of Metallica, and Megadeath Dave the singer for Megadeath was in Metallica as there lead guitarist but you need to start from the get go but first live in Moscow to get an idea keep it going I will be watching good luck White Boy Paul from Utah 🤘🇺🇲🇺🇲🤘
Back when you released the reaction to nevermind (nirvana) I told you to react to them (Metallica) cause I knew it would have the same effect I had listening to them for the first time. Gotta to ride the lighting next then save master of puppets for after
In my opinion, metal was labeled as satanic because it exposed the bad sides of religion and religious folks needed a way to keep people from hearing other sides.
Believe it or not, many Metallica fans shit on this album. Most of what's after is more poppy and much of what before is more thrashy. This album is still solid IMO
