Brendel is not my favorite pianist, but I always enjoy listening to him and studying the score. He always has something interesting to say and superb pianism. Even when I disagree with an interpretation, he rarely becomes predictable. More often he finds and conveys something special

Brendel captures more than anyone the true spirit of these mature works by Liszt, were virtuosity takes the back seat. Best recording ever.

The first time I hear Brendel playing Liszt and what a wonderful understanding he has of this captivating composers Depth. Alfred Brendel the more I hear his playing the more he is becoming one of my favourite Pianist who has a great knowledge to a wide range of composers. many thanks for this posting

Yes, Hans, Brendel is one of my favourite pianists, too, and probably my favourite among all Lisztians. I think that he captures the true essence of Liszt's spirit and soul. This is most evident on Les jeux d'eaux à la Villa d'Este (from the Troisieme Annee). Brendel at his most affecting. Leslie Howard, too.

Today I'm listening to Brendel all day . What a wonderful time I'm having! There aren't many pianists whose playing I can stand to listen to all day. Ivan Moravec, Marcelle Meyer, are two others. THank you so much! This is AMAZING! (I hate to use that overused word, but it truly applies here!)
