I was humming this in an elevator one time. A girl came in with a scowl on her face. I was still humming the song. Suddenly I get to the chorus parts and she starts singing, "Please tell me why," and we sung the whole chorus together until it was time to get out of the elevator. It was one of the most beautiful experiences with a stranger I ever had.

Cool short story about this song. About a year ago I was at a hockey game and this song was being played during stoppage of play. The play resumed and the song was stopped just after he said "Still Burninggg". However, that did not stop 20,000 fans in the arena all yelling out "PLEASE TELL ME WHYYYYYY MY CAR IS IN THE FRONT YARDDDDD...". Epic moment!
I was at a junior hockey playoff game 7 and the home side had just gone up 3-1 in the second and the whole commercial break the whole place was just singing " living on a prayer " coolest feeling ever cause that building was feeling it.
I was at Joe Louis arena in Detroit back in like 2016/17 and they played this song during a stoppage in play and even after the puck dropped on the next faceoff and the song stopped playing, the crowd continued singing 😂

This song always makes me weep for the 90s and early 00s. Without doubt it was the best time to be alive. The world was just a better place and felt like a giant fun zone. Boys and girls ran in circles together. Nothing but awesomeness on the TV. And legendary music could be heard everywhere you went. Everything felt peaceful. It was humanity done right.

I know not a single person here can really relate to this but I still feel obligated to say it. This song, as well as the video, especially the font, causes a certain kind of nostalgia. I didn’t grow up in this era, but what it reminds me of is my dad’s house as a little kid. The music playing, the sounds, the smell of birds and smoke from downstairs, the stringed beads on the door, the posters, and some flavor of happiness I can’t really explain to someone outside of my head. Memories, but of emotions, not events. It’s like when you catch a whiff of that nostalgic smell but can’t really place why it’s important to you. I can remember it perfectly without really remembering any events. Funny thing is this specific song probably never played on the stations he listened to, the song just kind of conveys it in an unintentional way. Sorry if this wasn’t coherent, it’s not easy to convey without you being there inside my head.

This is one of my favorite childhood songs especially when my friends and I played rock band together with this song. I was so pissed off with my stepmom in my teen years when she said she doesn’t like my friends and doesn’t want me to listen to this and I cannot have it in my music playlist or she’ll take my stuff away. Now that I’m in my 20’s hearing this brings back good memories of when I hung out with my friends and reminds me of how much I disliked my stepmom. Still to this day I don’t like my stepmom for the many things she has done and she is not a great stepmom in my opinion lol
I'm sure she was trying to help in her way, because the song is about a man messing up his life. But as long as you took it as a "what not to do" and didn't romanticize it, you should have been fine. Hopefully. :)

I find it amazing how quickly people forget that the music that lasts, the stuff everyone gets nostalgic over, is some of the best of that age. Every generation has crap. Every generation. And they have a lot of it. You only remember the good stuff. The only reason you're complaining is because you have to live through the crap. Given 10 years or so, you'll forget that crap and only remember the good. Also you're 15. You didn't live through the shit from the 90's. I did. There's a lot there too

I have been known to circle the block, or take the long way home, if a song I love comes on when I'm almost home. True story: My friend & I were on vaca in San Diego years ago. We had met these two Navy guys at a club, who were giving us a ride back to our hotel.* The Cars song, "Let The Good Times Roll", came on over the Classic Rock station, and all four of us were like SHHHEEEEIT YEAH!! Singing at the top of our lungs!! The kid driving made an extra circle around the city block so we could hear the rest, & not wreck the vibe. I think of this any time I hear that song!! 😁♥️ *Don't ride in cars with guys you don't know!! I cannot believe how stupid & naive we were, & lived to tell about it! 🤣🤣 (These guys were perfect gentlemen, but not whatsoever a good practice!)
