@@wbeecroft ... that was my point. Some governing body should take control and bring back actual parade marching. I'm well aware of what has happened. It's not pretty. Most of the street shows are sloppy and the music is strange. Broadway shows, etc. Minnesota 'was' one of the top parade band states in the country. That's all gone.
@@hansgordy I totally agree that we had one of the best parade band states in the country and I would love to see it again also, but I just dont think its going to happen, not any time soon. I love traditional marching, i have a video of this band on my channel from 1990, but its just so far gone that I dont know if it could ever come back.
@@wbeecroft ... I was a band director in Minnesota in the 80s. It was wonderful. Litchfield, Long Prairie, Alexandria, St. Anthony Village, Henry Sibley, Waconia, and a few others were at a national level. I have heard through a very, very good source who works with two of our great parades each year... that Minnesota bands are having a lot of trouble getting into the really big ones now. The only way that it would change is if the high school league or some other entity oversaw competitive parades and set rules... such as no stopping in the judging area. It would turn around rather quickly. But I'm not holding my breath. There's never been any oversight of that in Minnesota. A few sets of judges let a couple of Twin Cities bands go into mini fieldshows and create a lot of parade stoppage. We used to be severely docked for that. So a judging team or two caused it. They rewarded the bands who did it by giving them the championship. It was the end of great parade bands. Ironically... those two Twin Cities bands no longer do summer marching.
@@hansgordyYeah my dad marched in this band from 1986-1989 and I always talk to him about the old ways and how it wasn't even remotely how it is now. I would love to see that back one day but like you said, not holding my breath. Njce meeting you!
