Literally Everything I Know About Markers! #bensound #art #artlessons #markers #alcoholmarkers #mrt Artist, Dad, & Hobbit LIVE EVERY M/W/F AT 9AM CST ssavaart.com
Hi all! I know a LOT of you are looking for AFFORDABLE markers so here's a link for really good and cheap set of markers... these are the best I've tried. amzn.to/3UcrGnD I hope that helps. Sending Big Hugs from the Hobbit Hole. ♥♥♥ Scott
Pigment-based or India Ink-based markers from companies such as Staedtler and Faber-Castell don’t actually bleed through the page. They are also more lightfast and archival than alcohol dye-based markers, which fade over time.
Scott! I’m in my early 20s and still know Mr. T! I think compared to other American pop culture icons of that time Mr. T is still reasonably well known
If you want to keep your art bright for longer copie your work with a printer(or even better if you get it printed into a photo) and keep the original in a binder
I’m in awe!! I recently decided to learn how to use alcohol markers to fit my style. I have a substantial collection collection dust because I was never happy with what I made.I’m definitely inspired.
Hey Scott! Love your shorts and recently started watching your videos. I feel like what I love about videos is that occasionally I see the artists face and them talking to me. I feel like there is a bit of connection I'm missing. I want to see you explain your steps and then see your process. Take your time, use music and cuts to add progress. Art youtubers 10Hundered and Nerdforge kill it with long-form 10/10 would recommend them as reference points. Also talk slower in long videos! I like your art because the pieces feel so calm but your longform videos feel so loud. Totally get it if that's not your vibe but I figured I'd recommend it. Anyways I'm an avid long form watcher now regardless of all that. Please take it as constructive. Your videos are great and I just figured some feedback might be useful to grow your long-form audience. Love this piece
So drawing on top of markers wont mess up the markers? I was terrified if you draw on top of marker with another marker the color will leak into the other marker and ruin it. That doesn't happen?
This video was reMARKERble as always! How much of an impact does the base colour have on the piece overall? Like how different would Mr T be if you had started with a yellow base or something? Finding the right colours is probably a skill that will develop with practice. Still, watching how you layer everything and seeing it come together feels so magical! Ohu-who knew markers could be so amazing?!
I feel like I should take notes on this conversation structure…Hit ‘em with a dad joke, a question, a compliment, and another dad joke. Lol, I loved everything about this comment😂
Wow! This video shows just how much to trust the process. The deep pinks and lavender seem so out there, but once you get layering and really start mixing all the different colors you use, it comes together to make a beautiful, rich piece. I also never thought about how versatile markers being transparent is. Its just something I never thought of, and it's a really helpful way to look at it. Since it is transparent, i could possibly change things up or fix mistakes since the color isnt that deep yet. Thanks for the helpful advice!
As someone who uses markers A LOT, I have been able to make personal innovations and compile a decent amount of info, but never did I think to layer them like that
Thank you for saying that the quality of materials isn’t important. A lot of youtube artists use custom brushes and full sets of copic markers and it makes young artists think thats the only way to draw
what the hell, you're like a magician! for the first half or so of the video i thought there was no way those colours would end up giving the right skintone, but i was so wrong!
I recognised Mr T straight away 😃 He came to my work 15 years ago (big corporate company and he was there for Snickers). I asked him a question and his answer was super weird 😂 I asked as a joke if he has trouble going through airport security with all his chains and he said since hurricane Katrina he doesn't feel comfortable wearing real stuff, so this all fake. I still don't know what HK has to do with it all 😂 I love alcohol markers although I need to learn more about them. I've only used them on line work like colouring page. I want to learn how to use them to their full potential, since they are beautiful and can create amazing art. And thank you for saying there is no right or wrong way to use tools. I hate people that tell others they are using something wrong.
I know why he mentioned HK! He was involved in the cleanup, afterwards he felt it wasnt right to wear all that gold when so many people lost everything.
I use markers occasionally, I would advise to scan or photograph each artwork when it's finished. So even when it fades you can still see your progress and previous pieces!
Ah finally this is the first long form video that has appeared in my feed instead of me going to look for it! It is so cool to see the lavender-pink-red-etc slowly transform into a rich chocolate!
Markers are my personal medium of choice, so you posted this at the perfect time! I think I’ve gotten stuck in the ways I use them, and this gave me a lot of ideas! Also- during the entire layering process I kept thinking “that looks way too red” but then I compared the end product to the reference photo and saw it was a near-perfect match! You inspire me so much to continue as an artist, thank you!
I was feeling sad and anxious today, like on the verge on tears but I really could't cry, neither I knew exactly why I was feeling that way. But this video really calmed me, and inspired me to create. Watching your art is always amazing. Thank you so much!!!
Its currently 4 in the night where I am rn, but Im still super hyped out waiting for this amazing videopeoeoe! Im extremely sleepy byt very glad tpo 🎉🎉🎉😅
this turned out awesome, great work scott. Nice to see long form videos too in my opinion! I had a question, when layering markers over the initial graphite ( and maybe over the coloured pencils later on) do you find it can damage and discolor your marker tips? Also does it make a difference whether you use wax based or oil based pencil colours for this method? thanks
I was wondering if you could give me some tips on my art and my style maybe in the comments of him I videos or somewhere else Just see what you can do I don’t really care
i absolutely love your educational videos a lot of the times people just talk and you see no work and sometimes people just show their work and skip to the end result in the middle.
For anyone interested in the Mr. T illustration, it is available here! I pity the fool who misses out! 😉 www.ssavaart.com/product-page/mr-t-marker-and-colored-pencil-illustration
Hey Scott, I just want to say that you are a huge inspiration to me! Watching you draw has inspired me to draw in different ways and use different colour combinations I wouldn’t have thought of. I love the posters you make and today on my birthday I got the centaur and dragon alliance one :) Keep up the great work!
The SHOCK that coursed through my body when you said it was Mr. T. First things first, no I don’t know who he is or what he looks like, so I didn’t recognize him. However, I am a young person who works at a zoo, and on Wednesday it was announced that our guinea turaco’s official name is now “Mr. T, and if you don’t know who that is … none of you know who that is. We’re old.” I jokingly thought Mr. T when you said “you may or may not know who I’m sketching.” AND IT ACTUALLY IS HIM. What a fun coincidence.
would it be possible to preserve the art piece made by markers with any type of vanish so it doesn't fade or to be able to give it a longer lifespan? also, I absolutely love your videos! I love that you share the good and the bad, the frustration and happiness, I love that you keep it real! You are motivating me to start my own art youtube channel where I keep it real just like you! because we need a lot more like that in the community 💖 Lots of love from Norway!
Hello 😊 I love your videos, I never did realistic colors can you advice me any cheap pencil color brand and also can you just draw me please my name is humza😊
Hey scott,a young artist here..Or maybe not but I really have an interest but I’m not in the position where I can afford more art supplies but for now I have colour pencils, oil pastels, watercolour pencils and a pencil I guess..I watched all your videos related to these again but I was hoping you could maybe make a video helping me out
@@Pottybaby Oh. I would look at my other videos. THat's the best I can do to help. I make as many as possible in hopes that they may help artists like yourself.
Thank you for this video informing everyone . The medium I mainly work his alcohol markers, and I learned a lot of advice from this that I will be sure to use some of my own art!
As soon as i saw you layering the colors and using the BASE COLOR as LAVENDER made my jaw dropped to the floor !! I didnt even imagine or think abt that! Ive used coloring markers for 1-2 years and i had a hard time figuring how to make it look like the correct shade of color or like make it blend smooth, this helped me so so *so* so much! ❤❤
This was really helpful! I’ve been mainly winging it with my markers, and I’m used to separating my art medians when I’m working on a piece. Seeing how blending different medians can work out gives me some ideas for my next pieces. Thanks, Scott!
Thank you for this video! I got some ohuhu markers last christmas and it’s been really a challenging yet fun experience trying to work with the medium. To see your process is really cool, from the first layer of lavender building up to all those different shades of colors! It’s really inspiring to see how it all comes together :D
your blending always seems like magic (honestly still does 😂) I appreciate you taking the time to explain this process!! Hoping to add a bit or so of these techniques and keep growing!!!
Dude this is amazing. The way the colors changed from all these bright saturated colors in the beginning to skin color is magic. And the way the pencils interacted with the markers was so cool. I don't really like drawing with markers, but I have some old (really cheap) ones laying around and I might give it a try again. Thank you so much!
thank you so much for explaining everything...so i can leave drawing under the sun if they feel too dark as well...LET'S GOOOO i now know how to fix one drawing
Ik you probably wont see this but... I HAVE A REALLY IRRELEVANT QUESTION!!! 🙋 Whats your favorite show/shows (mines good omens and other related shows :)) and would you ever do sketchbook of just characters of your fave shows? Thatd be really cool. No pressure tho! Ik youre busy (:
I AM NOT OLDER FROM THE 80s! I swear. I’m not. I pity the fool who says that to me again! Loving this video! I struggle with markers at times and this is giving me confidence!!
If they think that you should use only one medium for a piece they will think I am crazy. Cuz I use water colors, crayons, scetchpens and color pencils in just one piece
My friends always say that because I have nicer (can’t put enough emphasis on the ‘er’ part of that) I do better art. Finally I have the clarification I need to prove it’s al skill! 1:04 (Although I work in watercolor and inks)
Wow! Again with the pencils and markers yay I can’t wait to try it. Interesting comment about the faded. Have you worked with mod podge at all? I wonder how that would respond as a sealer.
Watching you make art and have fun with the process, experimenting with colors and making something beautiful along the way is so inspiring to me. I've been trying to let go of my perfectionism and be more spontaneous. I love your channel very much.
I'm planning on buying some Ohuhu alcohol markers and this just popped up on my feed... coincidence? Probably not. But, hey, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!
How do you see the purples in the skin? I typically am decent/good at color theory but I havent put in the effort to figure out skin tones. Thank you so much!
I learned about markers bleeding onto whatever is under the paper upon first using them (on my white desk), so I have a thick sheet of black paper that I slip under the paper whether I'm using markers ^^'
Oh! I knew i recognized Mister T! This video really made me happy :] It amazed me the way the markers layered on top of each other!! It looked so cool!! I really want to draw now hahajs, :] Great video! I love to see the process of art and people explaining their own process, it makes me happy happy happy :] thank you 🌠🌟💪
Hello!a quick question what to do if your fineliner dries out? (I bought one few weeks ago but only did one sketch with it and today i was sketching but it just won't work)
You've altered my opinion on art a lot. When I make art I always try and make it perfect. but that doesn't really work out. I figured out that I enjoy making simplistic drawings but they have my wacky ideas (like a water bottle aquarium!) I really enjoy your videos. And it feels like I finally have someone like me, because Im also autistic. see ya!
Thank you for the video! Your art advice always helps so much. I just got alcohol markers so this was perfect! I also had a question, does it matter wether the markers are brush tip or fine/chisel tip for getting a good result? Anyways, thank you so much again for making such awesome videos ❤️
I noticed when I use my markers on top of pencils, it can just sit on it, without properly blending. I noticed that here too but you managed to do it anyway. How did you do that? I use both Polychromos (oil) and Luminance (wax)
I'd love a video specifically on how to choose colors for different layers depending on what you're doing (i know a lot of it is practice, but maybe some tips)
The video is great, but idk if the "every alcohol marker works the same" is that accurate Since yeah difference between Ohuhus, Copicd and Winston and Newtons isnt huge But some really cheap alternatives just do nothing so I would pay a bit of attention about that
Wow! That’s magnificent! You did it beautifully. love ohuhu markers! I use them all the time. But not the way you use interesting colors for the layers, it is something new for me.
Hi !! 😀 Regarding the resistance to light with the ohuhus, would you know if when you keep the drawings in a closed sketchbook, is there always the risk that the ink will fade 😓🤔 ? I'm interested 😅
Scott never skips a beat good job Scott I've both lost count of how many times you've made a beautiful piece and I've learned something while you did it ❤❤
Just be warned. If you use markers to blend your pencil crayons, you can ruin your nib. I have ruined at least three marker nibs while doing that. It would be better if you went over your pencil crayon with isopropyl alcohol in an aquash Brush
