Eh. He's not really a placeholder for the player to embody, Gordan is an established character with backstory and real name. The only thing that really makes YOU the character is the fact he's silent

@@DHGxMcFlurry I mean yea, but the only thing we are ever really given is his name and occupation and that he has friends. The closest thing we ever get about him as a person is that he used to race Barney which is still kinda vague. Valve admitted that he's supposed to be a vessel for the player to inhabit and imprint themselves on. I personally have my own interpretation of Gordon as a person because i find that more interesting. But on a technical and official level, Gordons nothing but a pair of hands holding a gun, its you who brings him life both physically and mentally. I do like however that the community has a few different interpretations of him that are practically considered cannon by most.

unlike alot of the "literally me characters" Patrick Bateman, Joe, etcetera. Gordon Freeman is actually relatable because he's just a guy who was late to work same as Adrian Shepherd

I just had a hilarious thought, Freeman is wearing the Helmet, the Helmet speaker is broken, so he's chatting away and thinks he's going crazy because everyone is ignoring him, and everyone else thinks he's being some intense silent brooding badass, but it's just that the helmet is broken.
