From the new land's birth, a tapestry unfurls, A myriad of voices, a chorus of pearls, In the annals of American literary lore, Movements emerged, each with tales to explore. Colonial times with Puritan zeal, Seeking salvation, their truths revealed, Anne Bradstreet's verses, a woman's voice, Her poems echoed, a Puritan choice. The Age of Enlightenment brought reason's light, Franklin's wisdom shone, his prose took flight, Revolutionary fervor, a quest for the free, Political writings, shaping destiny. Romanticism's bloom, a stirring phase, Irving's tales, a legend's maze, Embracing nature's allure and myth, In words, they found a passionate pith. Transcendentalists sought truth's core, Emerson and Thoreau, their ideals soared, In Walden's woods and Self-Reliance's creed, They championed the soul, its inner seed. Realism, a mirror reflecting life's tale, Twain and Chopin, their narratives prevail, From Huckleberry Finn to The Awakening's plight, Their realism painted the societal fight. Naturalism, a stark and brutal art, Dreiser, London, with stories torn apart, Human fate against an indifferent force, In stark realities, life's rugged course. The Harlem Renaissance, a vibrant song, Hughes and Hurston, the spirit strong, A celebration of Black culture's bloom, In art and verse, a powerful fume. Modernism's break from tradition's reins, Eliot, Frost, their avant-garde strains, In fragmented verse and innovative form, They reshaped literature's established norm. The Beat Generation's rebel cries, Kerouac's road, Ginsberg's howls that rise, A countercultural fervor, against the grain, In their words, dissent's untamed terrain. Postmodernism's intricate weave, Morrison's tales, Pynchon's intricate heave, A fragmented reality, truth's elusive chase, In literature's maze, a postmodern embrace. Through epochs and eras, a tapestry's span, American literature, a rich and diverse plan, A timeline of movements, each with its flight, In the quilt of stories, their voices ignite.

Hello, professor! I am lately confused by the difference between postmodern literature and postmodernism literature as I was asked to prepare a presentation related to American postmodern novels. Is that okey to introduce the special narratives of American postmodernism literature? Could you plz help me❤Thank u so much❤

I am unsure of your question. Postmodern and Postmodernism Literature, to me, sound like the same time period. Perhaps you are comparing different countries that have different qualifications for Postmodernism? Use my postmodern notes for American literature, and good luck!

18:11 TAKE THAT, AI! Just explained to a guy who suggested AI can just write the scripts. AI doesn't know how to differentiate dialogue between a person from CHICAGO or NEW JERSEY or TORONTO, CAN. Only a human writer has life experiences and recollection of the different types of people they've encountered to give an authentic character description in their stories.

As the video states, this is about the different time periods of American Literature. This video covers from the beginning of the country's foundational literature to contemporary in the late 20th Century/early 2000's.

Why HELEN HUNT JACKSON is not mentioned here? Her RAMONA is a masterpiece of American Literature set in California and it depicts the horrors of what the white settlers did to the California Indians who were the true owners of the land.

@learninglanguagearts Totally understandable. Have you done any videos on indigenous American literature? I understand this could be a tricky topic, in terms of historical records, since many of their stories predate their use of writing, but it is a very INTERESTING topic. And important for showing inclusiveness of voices (and history). 😊

You certainly can. It is a newer literary period; literary critics are still trying to agree on the years.
