Bruh you are the guest of honour in Lithuania :D glad you like it and are also articulate and experienced enough to explain what my country is all about!
Beautiful video, all true. Just little correction: people don't make 300 - 400 € here long ago. The minimal salary is 840€ (960 € confirmed from 1st of Jan, 2024) but only low quality job pay minimal wage and just 9% of population work for minimal (according statistics 2023). Average salary is 2000 € (minus taxes). But if you a doctor, manager, IT, engineer, qualified worker or an owner of business you get 3 k +. I mean pay is definitely lower than in Western Europe but not as low as you mentioned. The rest you mentioned is correct. Thank you, Mark - love your channel! ❤
I have a friend in Latvia 🇱🇻. The countryside just looks magical! I am sure it contains Fairies and such like. Glorious. Lithuania i am sure looks very alike. Beautiful! 😊
Thanks for video. I have a question. Excuse me but I can't understand what you are talking about when you say that some people in Lithuania make 300 - 400€ per month. I just checked statistics and I see that the minimum salary in Lithuania in 2023 is €633 after taxes and average salary €1242 after taxes
We dont earn 300-400€. Average income per person is 1100€. 1000€ per person is enough to live a modestly decent life. 3000€ per family of 3 is where easy living begins.
Arlauskaite family lines from Lithuania go back to 1890's my g g grandpa George and his wife Mary. Lithuanians just do it better...just ask Frank Zappa lol
I went on Erasmus to Vilnius 5 years ago and it changed my life. Beautiful country and people, and even though I moved to Estonia, I still work for a Lithuanian company, so it's still close to me and my heart.
I thought it would be a big deal to get to Lithuania, but it is actually not that bad. Once you get to one of the major hubs in Europe, Vilnius is usually a quick 2-hour flight.
Service is great. It may be a culture shock for an American, and it would seem that service is "lazy" or what not, but I and most Lithuanians hate when waitress or waiter interrupt us every minute or so during our meal. "Do you want a drink? Do you want that or this?" No, I will call you up if I need anything, let me eat at peace.
Lithuania is pretty much at the top of my list of places I want to experience, and this video is really encouraging me to make that trip happen. I've really started to enjoy traveling to places that are a little more off the beaten path. I'm encouraged that there is so much to see outside of the cities!
I wish I could have had the cosmopolitan upbringing that your kids are enjoying. My family never really travelled when I was growing up, and I rarely got to travel outside of town until my teenage years. I'm 38 and still haven't been outside the southeastern United States. Your sons are very lucky and are having a charmed childhood that just about any kid could only dream of having.
I don't know your personal situation but i would suggest you make a rough target date like next spring for instance and pick a place you would like to visit and then do your research on flights, exchange rate and hotels-its easier if you have a plan to begin with. i'm looking at going to the Baltics from UK and its been nearly 20 years since my last trip (I'm 67).
Thanks. Especially for "people". We’re liviving as brothers and sisters and we welcome foreigners/attenders since Grand duch of Lithuania. Thanks for noticing that
Loved Lithuania!! Trakai Castle is just lovely! Easy day trip on the train from Vilnius. Amazing food & the people are really nice & hard working. ❤️👍🏼
Yes Trakai is the Vibe, i suggest if u come back visit Drūskyninkai too! Its full of nature miniral waters spa to relax, and water park, and even snowpark even in summer where u can snowboard
lietuviai, skirtingai nuo USA,neturi small talks kuturos, kur how are you su didziule sypsena nereiskia nieko..ir i nepazystamus ziuri gan atsargiai,bet,..kai jie jus priima, pamirsite zodzius apie saltuma..
It use to be different people here was honest allways openlly tallking whit each other there use to be vibe here, for past now like 5+years everyone is like old milk...😅😂 BUT IT REALLY BRINGS JOY TO ME WHEN PEOPLE FROME ELSE WERE LOVES MY HOME LITHUNIA❤😉
i was in vilnius for only a day during my interrail trip but i loved it! (as i did all the baltic states tbh) can''t wait to go back, hopefully going back when the baltic express train starts :)
300/400€ a month?!?!? Come on mate! Are you making this video from the 90's??? The current minimum monthly salary in Lithuania is 840€/912$ and an average salary is 1960€/ 2130$! It is now higher than in some Western Europe countries such as Greece and Portugal!
I was in LT last week and it was really great. We were in Klaipeda, Neringa and Palanga, the coast of the baltic sea only for a couple of days but I will go there again. And yes the Zeppilnas are great ❤
I have an amusing experience that connects with a bunch of stuff Wolter brings up in this video. In 2004, me, my dear late aunt, my mom, sister and a cousin were on a small bus tour of Lithuania. We actually watched the Olympic basketball game in a pub in Palanga the night the Lithuanians beat the US. It was amazing. Chaos and Pandemonium on the boardwalk! But, the most marvelous thing on the trip was the beauty of Lithuania. Both the landscape and the ladies. Listening to my sister and (female) cousin comment on "supermodels" waiting at ordinary bus stops as our tour drove us around is something I still chuckle about.
What You said about the prices is somewhat true (400€ salary is rarity nowadays) but we, locals, mostly eat Dienos pietus - business lunch. Cheap preheated food, but still fast and natural and even delicious. Prices vary from 5 to 7€. Locals opt for dish+soup combo. Thanks for not forgetting Lithuania after all these years!
@@UtamagUta we are talking about salaries aren’t we? It’s how economy works, if wages are going up, expenses follow. Prices wouldn’t go up if locals wouldn’t afford to pay it.
I went in 2022 when travelling the Baltics. I was lucky as I could get a cheap flight direct to Kaunas. Getting between Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania will be much better then they build a direct train route which they’re apparently planning.
Rail Baltica is already under construction. Warsaw to Tallinn would be under 7h, however the project deadline was delayed, it is now expected to be completed before 2030
the ones younger than 40 - speak at a quite good level, the ones between 40 - 60 - more likely to speak in big cities rather than small villages and at a lower level, the ones older than 60 - usually do not speak or understand any English
not a dumb question at all, some countries like Iceland all speak English. Don’t understand why some people need to be jerks. You wouldn’t have said that to his face but net makes some people so tough.
I was about to ask you what’s the castle in the background. There is similar castle in Poland in Malbork. It’s the biggest medival castle in Europe, did you have a chance to visit it? 😀
300-400 euros a month? What? The average salary is 2k. I'm 16 and I earn 600 euros a month working minimum wage. Love you Wolters World but people in Lithuania earn more than people in Greece and Portugal
Bro what you talking about 200-300 euros , you are sure you are In same country as me ? Bro my wage 1.6k euro a month and i didnt do nothing special simple manufacturing job 😂😂😂
Mark, why did you miss the Lithuanian dairy product - milk and all milk derivatives are the thing to die for! Didn’t hear much about fish too - smoked eels - probably the best thing. All natural and hand picked, but as thorough as you are you probably mentioned it in another video, so I will switch. The thing i probably hate (let’s tell kinda scared) is a fog - so thick and white, but it the same time absolutely beautiful
Minimum wages (Gross) (March 2023): Lithuania - 840 EUR (924 EUR from the January 1st, 2024) Estonia - 725 EUR Latvia - 620 EUR Czech Rep. - 717 EUR Poland - 746 EUR Russia - 178 EUR Source: t r a d i n g e c o n o m i c s
Minimum wage has increased since! Yes, inflation hit too, but starting next year, monthly minimum wage before taxes is 924 eur. Still not a lot, but it's no longer what you've mentioned
I was in Lithuania from 5th July to 9th July. To get from Riga to Vilnius I did a whole day sightseeing tour that had 4 stops along the way (Hill of crosses and Kaunas in Lithuania). It was a great way to get between the capitals and see places outside of them with minimal effort. Other than those, I just stayed in Vilnius (+visited Trakai for half a day). From there I got a bus on to Warsaw which was about 7 hours - it arrived about 40 mins earlier than the advertised time which was great, and the seat next to me was empty the whole way so I could get really comfortable
You make our country look so nice I couldn't describe it better myself. One more bad thing is the drivers... Please note that they do like to speed for no reason if it's 50 everyone has to go 60 if it's 90 that means it's 100. We do lack of good driving manners which is sad but it's what it's.
Not long they going to be Baltic railways what will connect Baltic country’s with Warsaw and rest of Europe ! This will definitely change and make easy for tourist !
Just a correction: nobody in Lithuania gets 300-400 euros per month, minimum wage is twice higher than that, avarage salary per month in vilnius is more than 1500 euros per month after tax.
There are a lot of mannors and small museums too. You should visit also Kaunas. It has a lot of museums to offer and it will soon have a Scientific Museum. Also Lithuania has a lot of Mannors (in Plungė, Pakruojis to name a few). Also, visit Merkinė dome, it's a very interesting place. Also there are a lot of educational experiences for adults and kids in small villages and plenty in towns from Šakotis baking, Bread making to educations about local plants (Panėkelpiai). So, if you are into nature, sustainability, there are plenty of things to do.
Info about wages in Lithuania is rather outdated . First quarter of 2023 average wage in Lithuania was €1,959 before taxes and €1,218 after taxes Wages went up , and so are the prices .
I know someone originally from this country. I met her online through a fandom and we're both artists. She does youtube and when I first heard her voice, I could detect an accent, but I couldn't figure out what kind it was. I soon got the answer. Lol, she's currently living in England with her boyfriend (they've been together for 10 years now), but she will occasionally go back to Lithuania to visit family, especially during the summer. She says one thing she misses about her home country is the food and she loves a type of cake that can only be found there. It's a honey cake. Sounds so good. Very sweet person and so soft spoken too.
Dude.. You lived here for 3.5 years... and talking about 300-400 EUR a month? Average wage in Lithuania is ~1200 EUR after taxes (1900 EUR before taxes). Even minimum salary is 840 EUR.. what 300-400 EUR you talking about? :) Of course prices are still high tho.. but it isint as bad as you described :)
Locals making 300-400 euros? ahahaha 2023 1st qtr average salary was- bruto 1960e/month, neto (after tax) 1218e/month. Lithuania gdp ppp per capita is in top 35 in the world, about to beat spain.
300-400 Eur per month is not accurate. Lithuania, located in the Baltic region of Europe, has an average salary of 20,003 EUR per year. This amounts to about USD 22,104 per year, according to the exchange rates in April 2023.
Average wages (Gross) (March 2023): Lithuania - 1960 EUR Estonia - 1741 EUR Latvia - 1560 EUR Czech Rep. - 1736 EUR Poland - 1607 EUR Russia - 780 EUR Source: t r a d i n g e c o n o m i c s
In terms of urban things Kaunas left an impression, felt like a mini Denver. In Vilnius at least install LED street lights and optimize lighting in old town which is the heart of the city. Feels like a village after 9pm.
