Little Big Adventure, also known as Relentless: Twinsen’s Adventure, is an action-adventure game developed by Adeline Software International and released in late 1994. It was published in Europe by Electronic Arts and in North America, Asia and Oceania by Activision.
This underrated game deserves more attention because it’s perfect. I’m not only showing the original CD-ROM version on PS MS-DOS, but the Sony PlayStation 1 (PS1, PSX) and Apple iOS ports (by DotEmu) too. In this video the differences become clear.
When I was young I first played the sequel Little Big Adventure 2 a lot. I didn't own the box and cd-rom of it so I never knew that the game was a sequel. When I discovered the prequel, Little Big Adventure 1, I immediately bought and played it. The story became far more clear when I finished it.

OH MY GOD!!! I searched for YEARS through my brain trying to find the name of this obscure game i used to play when i was a kid at a friend's house and i remember how AMAZED i was at the puzzle aspect of the ball and i was so proud that i figured out how it works before my friend did. We were around 9 years old and such graphics looked INCREDIBLE at that time, in 1997. thank you so much for this video!

And finally we'll have a third piece of art for this franchise! Just need to wait until 2024. But just following the news about its development will be my favourite thing for the next years! Thanks to Didier Chanfray and Fréderick Raynal for not forgetting us after all this time! This is the happiest thing that ever happened in my life.

@JBrothersz
@JBrothersz 9 лет назад
Wow, LBA 2 on Vita would be pretty amazing! Control wise I think it should play pretty well on that device. I don't know how it would control best on a touch device like a tablet. Screen wise it's great but control wise... Maybe touch were you want to go, just like LBA 1? It would be awesome if you could change the camera in the new version! :D
@AbsoluteTitt
@AbsoluteTitt 9 лет назад
JBrothersz Yeah well it would be up to the developer's vision I suppose. I am actually currently playing LBA1 on my PSP Go, and it's actually a bit uncomfortable using the directional buttons. But damn with Vita's analogs it would be perfectly comfortable I reckon. And yeah could have alternate ways of controlling; touch or analogs. And YES change the camera!!

Great review. I loved this game so much when it was released (I was in my teens); if memory serves me correctly, it was one of - if not the first - game I had on CD-Rom. Growing up I was almost purely into adventure games, so this was something a little bit different to my normal tastes, although with enough adventuring and puzzle solving and exploring that it actually still suited my tastes perfectly. Some people don't like that this game is very hard, and it is indeed seriously challenging. However, I'm proud to say I finished it right through, and pre-internet so not even with any walk-throughs. I don't mind the difficulty (in fact, I love it), but the tricky controls and, more severely, the stupid game save system work against it. (I recall a complex routine of backing up save games so the game didn't auto-save over them and lose all your process). But regardless of those two points, I love this game for the setting and the characters it creates. There are so many different sections, and different lands to explore. The graphics are wonderful for the era, and special mention must go to the amazing, atmospheric music - which I love so much that I still have as .mp3s on my phone. It's a shame this franchise didn't become better known as I consider it one of the best of the 1990s. I did have the sequel a bit later too; It was good but didn't quite match the original in my view, and I personally wasn't so keen on the addition of 3D (It was still a decent game, though). The original, though, would likely be in my Top 20 personal favourite games... of all time.

my fav game of all time. i don't really get it when people made the videos like "top50 nes games" "top10 ps1 games". the top game is which one you love. i so wanted to get in that beautufil, pure and kind world when i played it. things like that are even forming person and its outlook for the future. there were some more games to do that. for example fallout2 and more from old zx spectrum, consoles and pc

I think you did not know that you can instantly switch to the different modes on the PC version, too, by pressing the number buttons 1,2,3 and 4. I still know all the modes in my head. Sadly they removed that feature from LBA2 :'(

It would be more appreciated if you mentioned that the combat difficulty is actually decreased in mobile versions by reducing enemy health. A same enhanced version on Steam didn't modified this, so you have to hit the enemies as many times as you did in the original DOS version. Mobile versions also got rid of pain states while moving and attacking, so it's really worth a try for newcomers.

Yep, I do have it on ios. Very glad for that. There was a time I think 2019 where it was for sale on the app store. I think because of licensing and copyrights they had to take it down, but if you bought it and keep it installed like I did it works amazing! It also transfers to new apple products if you get a new one. It’s on my newer phone. It’s really wonderful, I played this game tripping on acid frequently then and I have the save files as a wonderful reminder of those great times in my life.

The control is like the first Alone in the dark* Mikami copied the mechanics and the engine of Alone in the dark from Frederick Raynal and not the other way around... damn, Mikami even lied until 2014 by saying he never played Alone in the dark and RE was his idea... until he spilled the been in an 2014 interview. The GDC of Alone in the dark is really great to understand why those controls and how much Alone in the dark was a milestone in the gaming industry technically (first game with Interpolated animation, use of 3D/2D plane and images/mask in game) and gameplay wise, all this in 1992 on DOS. The fact that Interpolated animation was in the game made interesting gamedesign you can still see today like, the possibility to stop an animation in the middle and change the attack, for the pirate for exemple you can fake an attack so he parry and the move quickly to another attack, and the game engine do this without the need to create many animation. In fact LBA is what Raynal is doing since Alpha Waves and alone in the dark, trying to push his ideas... LBA(from a French interview) was an anti-doom, meaning, he wanted something more cheerful and cute when he saw that doom was successful. Because he has the feeling that there will be a lot of clones, with an atmosphere of apocalypse and rust, but before the ambiance first of all he wanted an adventure game like he loved so much in his youth, isometric. LBA 2 was far more refined than the first 1, 3D world with isometric aspect, and no more headbangs... you got a real adventure feelings, but the game was too demanding and was never on PS1 or any consoles since Adeline Software was sold to Sega and then shutdown when Sega failed in 2001/2002.

I've just finished playing through it the first time. It's not a good game, there are just too many issues and it consists of 80% fetch quests. No idea about the english version, but the german version had poor writing and even worse voice acting. Making you backtrack is one thing, but at some point you have 1. Fly with the dino 2. Go somewhere with the small boat things 3. Go to a different island with your main boat. Just to get back to the start of the game.
