The risk is enormous whenever you are dealing with large sums but few contracts. You should never have your business put to a risk whereby your revenue is more than 10% of your total annual turnover, especially if you have multiple employees.

I have been charging a little more in the past couple of months for jobs myself. It separates the wheat from the chaff. I may win less work but still earn the same if not a little more money. The biggest difference for me is none of my customers that accept a quote are quibbling on the price. They want a job done and the price is the price. If someone is trying to get my price down, instant red flag and i would rather not work for them anyway.

Totally agree. If you drop your price you’re working for less money and if a job takes longer than expected then your losing even more money as the customer won’t pay you extra for the extra time the job takes.

Just touching on the pricing side of things. I think there is such a vast spectrum of pricing because there is so much competition. Loads of start ups, how do you compete with less experience? All you can do is beat the price.

I agree, that an a lack of business acumen where dropping the price to win work is the only thought they have rather than adding value
