I agree and I'm only 19. I taught myself the history of hip hop. I used to be in that mainstream stuff... but I just found myself skipping through the album and going the hit singles... then when I no longer liked them I no longer liked the album. It wasn't until I got 2Pac's Me Against The World and Strictly... that I really started finding albums I liked completely. The scratched choruses and those heavy drums (mainly from the Honey Dipper's sample) made me want more.

And honestly, I think they really need to start including Hip Hop history into music history, or just offer it as a course in school, because there is so much the young/my generation doesn't know, being brought up in the Hit 'Em Up era, filled with beef... that's is getting pretty damn violent. You can't even criticize people now for fear of it going down violently. My generation knows like none of the classics, because so little people are teaching them about the history or paying respect.

And the only way to get more was to go back really. My brother gave me Run-DMC - Raising Hell on tape (i even stopped bring my CD player to school and instead a tape player so I could listen to it all day), next thing I knew I had there first 3 albums. Now most of my stuff is from 87-96 (ATCQ, Rakim, etc.) However being from Canada, I got to say Canada has some some great hip hop... and the good part it's our mainstream hip hop. (I have a playlist on my channel you can check if you like.)
