I had a dream a man was being chased in a Ford Taurus in the early morning hours of October 7nth 1999, the assailants were attempting to kidnap him in hopes of gaining access to the password protected contents of an Apple powerbook laptop, they chased him through abandon tenements, the music in this video was exactly the music that was in my mind.
Hey Max, it's your cousin Justin! I am pulling out my old 505 and also wanted to get in touch with you about some other old skool synths you may have and may have to sell? How can I get in touch with you?!? Cheers!
It can make TB-303-inspired sounds, but the generators and filters come nowhere near the TB-303 in my personal opinion :) The TB-303's filter is really unique and makes kind of a complicated liquidy sound that seems to be difficult to replicate accurately in software, and the MC-505 is somewhat of a primitive all-digital box. It doesn't mean that the MC-505 can't sound good though! The TB-303 and MC-505 doesn't sound anything like each other, and they stand out in different ways. If it sounds good to your ears, then it is good ;)
The tb303 has an analog oscillator and an analog filter. The mc 505 is from 1998, so the digital emulation of the tb303 is not as good as contemporary ones. However, it is close enough. Should you purchase a real tb303 for $3000-$5000 or an mc505 for $150 on craigslist? That depends on if you're a regular guy who wants to make acid basslines on hardware or someone with a six-figure salary who is willing to pay thousands for "the real thing". A good analogy would be old rich guys paying $50,000 for an authentic 1950s stratocaster vs. the working musician who is happy with functionally the same thing for less than a grand.
