Back when musicians lived and breathed music ... every day. It wasn't a career or being signed to a label, but a way of life. Probably the reason why the music still sounds so amazing: because it's real, unpertentious and honest. R.I.P. Lowell George. Thank you.
I love how the background vox just kinda trickled in until they had a full harmony. And his band mates, who he plays with all the time, are still digging the shit out if what he is playing.
It likely seems that way because they're all higher than groceries in this vid, but... Lowell was a heaven send that we were only meant to be gifted for a short time
Also because of when you've played together for a long time you're in sort of common that the guys play things that may you open your eye a little; but like in this environment when they get together not rehearsing or playing live for a long time, this is a time to be amazed how talented your bandmates are. I've read the books about LF.
Whoa, those acapella harmonies, amazing how the whole band just picked up the cue & launched into it, soulful & true... Feats don't fail me now. "When backstage is even better than onstage..." What a GENUINE band, loaded with talent, blues & soul, & musical integrity from head to toe. As others have commented, Lowell didn't sing half bad with a cigarette in his mouth (he likes 'em backwards). Too bad that Lowell George (1945-1979) & the classic Little Feat lineup were so short-lived; Little Feat without Lowell George wasn't quite the same thing. He will always be missed by musicians & fans alike. R.I.P. Richie Hayward (1946-2010) R.I.P. Paul Barrere (1948-2019)
Lowell George is so talented, soulfully singing' and playing slide on guitar. He's got it naturally, not even trying to make that sound. Good thing is we can still listen to Little Feat albums with Lowell here in RU-vid. Pure talent. Still listening and watching today, September 23, 2020.
I‘ve been there, the night this interview went down. Grugahalle Essen/Germany. The first RockPalace ever. My opening scream when Feat hit the stage..... My friends at home, while watching on tv realized that it had to be me! 60 today, all i can say is: Little Feat are my all time greatest‼️Sure thang ‼️
Lowell George was able to convey in such a small space intense, deep soul and dedication to real blues. I keep returning to this clip just to be close to the magic, it’s a touchstone for me. Very few, if any have done it as well since. Rest In Peace Lowell, your music carries on forever and influences so many who came after you. Thank you.
As soon as he slides that guitar and sings, you are in a warm, safe, beautiful place,so missed.Being a drummer,Richie is my other hero, what a feel and groove he had, just a band full of mvps.gday from Oz.
Lowell was So f#cking talented and sweet ; what a band ! You gotta love the "Can you show us more different more difficult thing"? NOW RY PLAYS....RY COODER PLAYS.. .. .. Bro, that's too much!
When it fades at the end I'm always so disappointed. Just hearing Lowell talk and play, and the whole interview in Germany, etc., this is just a great piece of video. Somewhere in the Rockpalast archives, I bet, is the rest of this interview. I would kill to see it.
I was going over the Warner Bros alumni of that time and I'd hoped the multi cultural bands like Tower Of Power, Doobie Brothers, Little Feat and Graham Central Station would've lasted. Can't believe drugs got all the guys like that smh.
so cool, listening to lowell, and he mentions rc who played on their first album cause lg had a cut finger ,he said from building a model, plastic maquette, you know,,,,,,,,,
When this concert took place, I was 15. Raised bilingual, I felt sorry for the WDR-Guys, trying their best to make cool conversation in a language they didn’t no much about, obviously. What a band, what a night. LF one of the bands that drove me into becoming a musician, miss the original lineup.
Heck yeah. After a day of listening to my favorite band for 41 years, there is nothing better than background info. Sweet China White on demand was strong. Lately I've been wondering how the addition of the TOP horns to the WFC tour came about. I'm interested because there seems to have been some bit ofstrain on the band and yet they produced a world class tour and album that I am obsessed with some 40 odd years later.
Awesome Lowell I uploaded this years ago snd you tube deleted it on copywrite grounds ? At least this one survived . Saw the London bit of the tour WOWIE!!!!! show of shows at the rainbow xx
Can I get an Amen someone?! anybody hear me now? - China White baby - China White - the devil is in the line!!!! but it took so little time till I was feeling fine - not knowing that I was robbed blind…ouch… This band was slamming good. was so fortunate to have experienced them live at least 5 times that I can remember between 75 & 78. the apex was imo opinion the late spring early summer of '76…
Also in this interview, Lowell extolls the virtue of using Sears & Roebuck 11/16” sockets as his preferred slides, because, “you can get these things anywhere”.
Quite likely the most underknown guitar great of all time. Also, a wonderful vocalist along with being a top notch songwriter. Died in 1979 from a Heart Attack; likely due to his increasing affinity for speedballs along with his extreme obesity. They'll never be another like him!
You're absolutely right Chief. I don't know why I put down OD; perhaps because Lowell was performing China White? I was speaking with someone very close to the band about Lowell, and that person used the term "Chronic Excess" when I mentioned Lowell's death. Was saddened to hear that Paul Barrere passed away in 2019, and Richie Hayward died in 2010. Last time I saw them was in a parking lot in Vegas in 1997. Shaun Murphy was their lead singer and Fred Tackett had joined the band. One of the most talented bands that I've ever seen. Take care, stay well, and Peace!
Richard smokes while watching Lowell. The Fraternity Of Man played a festival in Pleasanton, California in 1968 along with Jose Feliciano and Eric Burdon and The Animals.
I bet you George was biting his tongue due to the fact he could do a wicked German Border guard impression that he used to lay on the Mothers of Invention
Ha!exactly what he looked like when I met him, never heard of "Little Feat" but do remember him as quite a character...and by the way,I met over a bit of "China White"!
Does anyone know what the actual guitar in the clip is tuned to? I know he says" I use a G tuning..... D G D G B (Flat) G and there's the joke about B flat ,but is that what the fender in the clip is tuned to? can anyone help me on this?
I reckon he is tuned to an A major also. Being a pendant here, but the equivalent G tuning he refers to will most likely have the thinnest string tuned to D and not as he said G. Anyway going to study the vid and try to gleam lick or two from the great man
