Isn't this just lovely and impressive? LGM is not an a cappella group, but Pentatonix fills that role enough to make it work with them kind of just filling in like you would with "normal" backing music! I'm not 100% sure but I think Pentatonix might have been the first western group on First take. Makes sense since they've been really big in Japan for ages.

I'm not sure if you noticed, but Pentatonix ( PTX) was singing in Japanese. Kirstie and Mitch ( dark-haired guy in white) are both huge fans of everything Japanese and have learned the language. They've performed many times in Japan and have personally met LGM. Thanks for this reaction! You should really try exploring some of PTX's stuff. They've got a massive catalogue of songs...some covers and some originals. They don't use autotune, but they do have a small amount of post-production done on their official videos. BUT...there are plenty of fan vids and some professional vids of them performing live on-stage for you to check out. Suggestions: Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Run To You (original), Kiss From A Rose, Gold, Say Something ( Kevin, the beatboxer, is on his cello in this one), A 20 minute video , professionally done by MTV of a mini-concert in Japan...PopSpring 2016...all the songs are originals and written by the group.

I wouldn't say that they've learned the language, I don't think any of them actually speak Japanese. They learn the songs phonetically - same as when they sing in French, Italian etc. They certainly know a few phrases, but I think that's about it.

There's are official and live videos for this. Pentatonix and Little Glee Monster later did another collab, a remix of Pentatonix's original song "Midnight in Tokyo". They also did a remix of their original "A Little Space" with members of K-pop group ATEEZ and have done covers of Japanese songs ("Pretender", "Perfume Medley") and special album mixes for their Japanese fans.

I look forward to more of your reactions to Pentatonix aka PTX. In "The Prayer" Scott (the blonde guy) sings in Italian. It's very important to PTX when they sing in a different language to get it spot on. They also did a Medley called "Perfume Medley" which has Japanese origins also, buy a Jpop group called Perfume. Thank you for your appreciative reaction. I just subbed.

Yep! And if you're a purist and don't like any tweaking (even if small) there is enough live performances out there to tide you over. But Pentatonix are very minimal on their cleanup. Just enough to make them competitive in the pop-radio space, but very much on the minimal end of that spectrum

Thanks for reacting to this awesome The First Take collab. All of them are amazing. FUN FACT: When Pentatonix toured Japan in 2023, Little Glee Monster joined them on stage at one of the concerts to sing a song or two with Pentatonix. It was great. They all seemed to have been having a blast.
