I don't blame her for running. Those puppies have been nourishing off her for the past two months! It's way past time those pups get a job and a place of their own. :) Those puppies sure are cute.
Thanks for posting the vid. I adopted a retired racer here in The States. It's interesting to see what racing is like in other parts of the world. Glad to see it is more of a hobby in Finland and that they are cherished family members.
Thanks for your reply. I'm very happy to learn greyhound breeding is so different in Finland. That's greyt that they get to be pets & also get to run, which obviously they love to do! It's clear you care about your pups.
Looks like the only way mom can try to get some rest is by RUNNING! Greyhound pups are craaazzzy! So I take it you're breeders? Do you breed them for the track?
My greyhound, Zeke, has been retired from racing in the US for about a year and 2 months now. He's been doing excellent adapting to home life. But for the first time the other day I saw him fanny-bump another (18 mo. old) puppy he was play-racing! I wish there was a "for fun" race he can participate in. He seems to miss the competition. I'd say not enough to go back to pro racing, but a fun-run race now and then would make his month! Do you have trouble finding homes for the pups? SO CUTE!
just for the love of running. I had a lurcher. she would run and run for about half hour then demand to go home to gouch on the couch for 6 hours. miss you Lucy lurcher.
They are so speedy and steady on their feet at only 10 weeks, but I guess that's Greyhounds for you. They look like like a pack of hunting dogs that have been sprinting and chasing for an eternity....
hehe the moms getting her pups to get some exercise. Cute :) i want a greyhound! but I cant for at least 5 years because I'll be in university for that long Dx
nice group of dogs. we have a greyhound we got from a rescue here in sw fl. he's gotta be pushing 10 by now. they retired him due to a hip injury. come to find out it was a slipped vertebra. while i was rubbing his back it popped back into place. still gets all kinds of attention when we go walking. its funny, he's white and black and his little cat friend is black and white.
Very cute! The reggae beat seems to suit greys well. I like the little white w/ black (similar to my Jackie Dawg). Looks like his right rear leg was a little stiff. Did he have a slight injury or just an odd gait? ***** ~R
I get retired racing greyhounds and find homes from them. Sometimes I get racers that were injured and have to re-hab them prior to placement. Most common injury is a right rear leg break (hock). We get the bones pinned up for 2-3 months so everything heals just right. The group I am a part of has 20+ greys looking for good homes.
Reality is that in the US, breeding and racing are big business. No place for all the loosers. No place for the pups that are just too slow or just don't "get it". No place for the tens of thousands of young adults (manditory retirement at 5 years) that are too slow, never enough homes for all the retired racers. Lure coursing with an artificial lure is a good excersize for a retired dog. Many clubs exist in the USA. Vote NO, to greyhound racing in your state.
Probably many if not all of them. Euthanization is becoming less and less commonplace in the dying industry except for the small percentage that are critically injured during their career; the adoption system is getting larger and more popular every year. Dogs die every day by way of cars, abuse, abandonment, etc; greyhounds may not get the best life at the track, but it's sure as hell is not an inhumane one, an abused or dead money dog does not make money.
