This is from '97 and he is only baby 27 or 28. He is now 52 been married for 30 years, 4 kids who sing and David is just better and better....I can listen to him all the time
And everybody new at that moment that a new tenor was on the scene. One the like of which this world has never seen, nor will every see again. He matured and got even better, bringing us such wonders as "No More Night" and a version of "Let Freedom Ring" like it ain't ever rung before, and even when he has sung his last note and breathed his last breath, his voice will always live on in our hearts and memories. God Bless David Phelps!
......And that night a phenomenally talented Godly man began a career of ministering to the world. He is still singing his heart out at 53 and wowing multitudes throughout the year as he travels the country singing of GOD' S forgiving and lasting love for all of mankind. GOD bless you David and continue pouring out your love on him his beautiful family, and the entire Phelps band.❤🙏
That "Amen" he did at the end, he must be really grateful to God and to Mark and Bill for giving him a chance to join the GVB after being broke, homeless and uninstable with 2 kids and a wife when they moved to Nashville. God is amazing indeed
I'm no believer, but I do believe that this video will one day be known as the world premier of the world's greatest ever gospel tenor. Thank you for being the custodian of this performance!
David is NOT dramatic, he's very anointed to sing God's praises!!! He puts all his heart and soul into what he's singing, and that's what, I believe, is pleasing in God's sight...SINGGGGGGGGGGGGG David!!
That blend at 5:08 is the most perfect thing I've ever heard in all my musical experiences. If only the audio were a bit clearer, there'd be overtones all the way up the scale.
LOL...Marks talent for saying things to bring the humor of our live is God given ! The Word says. " The joy of the Lord is our strength!" Be joyful in Him.
Man David, you never cease to amaze me. Every time I hear this man sing I can expect goosebumps, my heart pauses, and my eyes grow big with such amazement. What a gift from God.
David's first appearance with the GVB... he was so recent in the group that they wrote his name wrong (Dave instead of David)... but he already was showing what he came to do, showing what a tenor must do to be the BEST of the world (y)
One of my fav tenors in southern Gospel music... David Phelps really shows his vocal training on this! This video has be of a performance several years ago as David went out on his own, then came back about 3 years ago. I love the current GVB

LOVE Phelps, but he was testing the waters in this era on what style to sing. He sounds like the Isaacs on this song. I'm glad he changed that.. He is my favorite tenor
I sure wish they would get back together. They were the Beatles of gospel music. There will never be another group like them. Each one of them are a super talent. Love those guys
David Phelps is terrific. The problem with the performance is Bill Gaither's long, stupid attempt to hog the limelight and Mark Lowry's stupider-than-stupid comic bit. He wasn't funny when he was funny. That comic relief (from really good singers and really good arrangements and good musicians) is never pleasant.
dont tell me u dont know about music dude. he sings the melody there. and in every songs whoever sings the melody must louder thn the other voice.. but the most important is they both are great singer and sing for jesus.
