I was in an earthquake in California. I was sleeping on a pull out couch bed. Earthquake woke me up, I was on my hands and knees on bed while the foot end was bouncing up and down 3 - 4 inches for about 1 minute straight. Building was swaying back and forth. SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME I WAS 15 YEARS OLD VISITING MY FATHER IN CALI FOR SUMMER FROM BOSTON, MA. WE DONT REALLY HAVE EARTHQUAKES. I AM 52 NOW AND WILL NEVER FORGET IT.
Once I was in bed sleeping and I was woken up by something, opened my eyes and thought I was drowsy and a bit dizzy but I glanced at my fishbowl and noticed the water was sloshing a bit and I remember realising it's an earthquake; had a vague thought in my head like "if I die I die, my time has come", turned around and continued sleeping.

I live in the UK and we don’t experience earthquakes here because the country isn’t situated between any plate boundaries. However, one time in 2015 we had a minor earthquake and I remember I literally just slept through it. I’m from California, earthquakes are so normal that when one happens, I’ll go to my sister’s room and be like “ did u feel that?” “yea”, then we carry on our day like nothing happened lol.

Some foreign friend who ain't used to earthquakes panics a lot and we just tell them how it is. It's usually not something the toir agency warns you about so when you get unlucky and experience it, some don't really know the drill.
My first experience (that I can remember) with earthquake was when I was in kindergarten. Just in our living room. I was with my uncle, and he was kinda leaning or somewhat placing his hand on the center table. I actually thought he's just messing with me, I thought he's the one shaking the table. He was quite the prankster/joker type of uncle so I didn't believe him even if he said, "I'm serious. I'm not the one shaking it." Then I hear screams from the neighbor that got me to think it was really an earthquake. It's real. I was really shocked that time. Probably the reason I can still remember it now.
I was 12 when we had an earthquake and I had not long before watched the exorcist and was absolutely petrified to sleep in my own bed... I had a bunk bed and it woke me up I really thought the girl from the film had come to get me I was screaming in terror and I remember my mum shouting from her bedroom "go back to sleep it's just the boiler!" 🤣 even now in my 30s I have such a vivid memory of when it happened hahahaha
During one of my experiences with an earthquake i had the urge to knock someone up bcs i thought they were kicking their feet under the dining table which really annoyed me. But then i realized the ceiling lights were swaying side to side and my chair was shaking as well as it got more intense😂 figured it's not someone's feet, to which my friends proceeded to grab my arm as we nervously laughed at each other
I’ve only experience earthquakes 3 times and they were pretty minor but it managed to scare my mom and sister lifeless lol. Can’t imagine living in Japan where that’s pretty frequent.
You learn to get used to it. Even when the big ones hit us, I'm still pretty calm since I don't live near the sea or mountains but my boyfriend that does live near the sea would be ready to evacuate in case a tsunami comes. 😅
I used to be so upset because everytime an earthquake happens ide either be asleep, playing jumping jack or running. I always find out after it's done when I either notice our pole moving or people with shock faces
We had one in England when I was 16 and we don’t get them in England, we do but they’re so slight you don’t feel them. So I was at my boyfriends nans and she lived in a house that was built in the 1800s, still had a lot of the older features too. So we are sat up talking about ghosts, I don’t believe in them, he does, mid conversation the windows just started shaking really hard for a few seconds and with us not having earthquakes and never felt one up until then, it was ghosts in my mind and that was the only rational explanation. Until his Nan asked if we felt it the next day when it was on the news. Haven’t had one like that in the 14 years since. It was awful.
That’s terrifying the swaying alone makes walking hard .. we had a earthquake here it was a 6.5 and on the second floor it was swaying so much it was difficult to walk down the stairs, so I can’t imagine how it felt on the 26th floor
i live in california on the fault line and my school was destroyed in the 2014 earthquake. i was on the toilet during it and it happened and i just got up and washed my hands during it. idk why but earthquakes don’t scare me at all.
It really does feel like someone shaking your bed of you've never experience an earthquake before tho 😂 My first night in Japan, I woke up in the middle of the night to my bed shaking and thought it was my roommate (whom I had just met that day) was being a weirdo and shaking my bed. But I was so groggy from the jet lag that I just went back to sleep. Only found out it was an earthquake later.
One time me and my sister spent our vacation in Japan and on 18 June 2018 we experienced an earthquake around 8am which woke us up. We were staying in a traditional Japanese inn in the countryside of Kyoto and when the earthquake hit the lamp on the ceiling swayed threatening to crash down. While it was still quaking my sister woke up just looked at the lamp and moved her futon further from the lamp and went back to sleep lol Coming from an island which is along the fault line which belongs to the Pacific ring of fire, we are a bit immune to earthquakes so we didn't panic 😁
Omg I had a similar experience. When I was in Japan I got home to my hostfamily's house and was alone still and lied in bed cause I was just very tired. But then suddenly everything starts shaking and I'm hella confused and like "what's happening" cause in Germany we don't have earthquakes. And then oh right I'm in Japan lol. It's even scarier when you suddenly get a message on your phone warning you while you're outside!
Yeah when ur japanese u get so used to earthquakes. The only time I was traumatized from an earthquake was the 3/11 earthquake in 2011 back when I was younger and no one was at home. There’s still irreparable damages left in some areas of japan from that
So recently like on this week only we had an earthquake in India basically on North India i was like sitting on the couch and it shakes for 5 sec and i thought maybe a rat has entered the house and then again it happened for 3 i said that is it a Earth quake or i am hallucinating and my brother was like yeah we all ran in our balcony we live on 3 floor all the neighbours were outside we were standing in 3 floor like hey guys sup and my father was like i am not gonna come it stopped i was so happy like wooooow an Earthquake i was like eating pasta and my plate was like shaking fun fact my neighbour son thought it was a ghost like 😭😭 he is 5 soo
I used to have earthquakes where I lived all the time but I've only been in around 4 really strong ones and the stuff was falling and my 11 yr old unsupervised self grabbed the cat and the TV so it wouldn't fall lol my mum was at work and my brother was crying in the toilet the other brother was just sleeping trough it I'm the youngest btw it was scary af
honestly I was Jesy in my first earthquake. Not the bed shaker lmao but my automatic response was to cry. then we had so many aftershocks that I just got used to it.
It always feels funny when someone says they experienced a 4.5 earthquake and they scared. Because I do live in a place where we have earthquakes all the time and one time experiences a 7.2 and 4.5 is like nothing to me anymore
I've had a lot of experiences with earthquakes, it's pretty normal for me now. I even experienced an earthquake, not so intense, while sitting in the toilet doing my business. I would rather have the shaking building than that one ever again.
First time i experienced an earthquake i thought a box of toys had fallen over and shook the whole house. Like it does in a cartoon. My dad was more reasonable with thinking a car crashed into our house.
I stay in an apartment and my legs felt like jelly afterwards. I was in the living room. For some odd reason I didn't realise there was an earthquake I thought the noise was from my Fridge moving towards me (not even possible) . Cause it was the only thing I thought big enough to cause vibrations and that sound cause I refused to believe I was in an actual earthquake lol
I might need help because when there was a huge earthquake that was happening, I was all alone in the kitchen and was not wearing any slippers on, so my feet was literally touching the ground and I felt the vibrations when it happened and I kept laughing like a maniac because instead of being scared, I was laughing and felt really tickled 😭😂

Ahh I’ve never experienced an Earthquake before, but don’t really want to know… Come to think of it, the only natural disaster I’ve experienced was flood. I live in a safe country when it comes to natural disasters.
