Little puppy gives me hugs during his first bath 

That was all the groomer's doing that made him calm and well behaved. I'm a former groomer and it really is so important to start puppies right like this. She did all the right things to make his first experience calm and not scary for him. Her letting him sniff everything before she used it on him is what everyone should do with dogs, horses, etc. when introducing them to new things. Too many times people do not seem to understand this and come on too fast and too strong with animals creating fear. And then when the animal reacts in fear because the person created it, they blame the dog, cat or horse, etc. The puppy was well behaved because the human handled her the right way.

I had people recommend I should "get a hold of the dog, keep it still and quickly cut the nails before she can react" (not a groomer, my dog is just not a fan of nail clipping as most dogs). I think that is terrible advice. I always bring out the clipper, let her sniff it, rest it next to her, touch her paws with it then put it back on the table. She is still not letting me do it but she is well behaved at the groomers and I'd like to think this whole process has helped

@@mariakan1598 I love that you are doing that with her. If she is food motivated you can reward her if she is relaxed and showing no stress. Like you said, pull it out let her sniff it then gently touch her and lay it next to her and then when you see she is genuinely relaxed give her a treat and love. If she still seems stressed don't do that because you will unknowingly be rewarding her fear. I always tell people, move slow, let the dog process things and then make sure you never comfort or reward fear or stress. Just wait with them through it and don't react. Pretend like nothing is happening and you're just chilling. As if to say, "see girl, no big deal". And as you start to see her attitude change and she shows a relaxed state reward her with whatever it is she loves, food, toys/playtime, affection. I'm older (in my 50's now) and one thing I can say that the internet has made better in this world is people's awareness of how animals think. Much more intelligent and emotional than my generation was taught. You're a good dog mom, she is lucky to have you.

I also had a good boy, that breed. He would wag his tail every time I looked at him. His name was Charlie . He lived to be 14. Unfortunately he broke his leg at 7. He had pins put in, but always limped afterwards. He always was a good boy. I miss him. I have another good boy named Fred He to had to have surgery on both his back legs. ACL. He is my ten thousand dollar dog. I'm not wealthy. I don't have good luck with animals.

She can be a little bit abrasive when she talks to some of the dogs. That’s not so great

@@jujujupiter she is a human being dealing with dogs of all different temperaments - including ones that are afraid or show stress aggression - on a daily basis. provided she doesn't outright scream at them i think she is allowed to get a little bit mad at them sometimes
