Little ringed plover (Mindre strandpipare) in Fysingen north of Stockholm, Sweden [2024-04-20] 

A Little ringed plover, Charadrius dubius (Mindre Strandpipare), feeding in the marshy shoreline of lake Fysingen north of Stockholm, Sweden. We saw for Little ringed plovers at this location on this occasion. Here it is feeding with the intriguing method of rapidly shaking and tapping a leg. This has been an observed behaviour of this species and is common in other shore birds. It seems to assist in identifying and/or dislodging prey just below the surface.
