Wherever I May Roam: Grandkids Edition - Little Rock Arkansas Adventure
Hello, wanderers! Today's journey takes us to the heart of the South, where history, innovation, and family come together in Little Rock, Arkansas. As always, I'm Melody from "Wherever I May Roam," and this time, I've had the joy of traversing the winding roads of Little Rock with my granddaughter - a trip I'll treasure forever. She picked the destination, no clue why or how, just rattled off "Little Rock" when I asked where we should go.
Rain or Shine, Little Rock Shines
We arrived in Little Rock, greeted by the shiny city lights that promised a weekend full of fun. Despite a little rain, our spirits were high, and we dove into the adventure headfirst. Our first stop was the Museum of Discovery (museumofdiscovery.org), a place where imagination knows no bounds. My little explorer's eyes sparkled as she tried her hand at every interactive exhibit, learning about science and nature with hands-on experiments that are not only educational but truly a blast!
Our next destination transported us to a pivotal point in history - the Central High School Civil Rights Site. Walking in the footsteps of the Little Rock Nine, with the legacy of bravery and perseverance echoing through the halls, was a powerful experience that left us all with a deep appreciation for the Civil Rights movement and the path to equality. After such a moving visit, we shifted gears to something a little lighter. The Arkansas State Capitol was our next exploration, offering magnificent architecture and beautiful grounds.
Our Home Away from Home
Now, let's talk about where we stayed. The Tru by Hilton North Little Rock (www.hilton.com/en/hotels/lita... the perfect retreat. With its vibrant atmosphere and family-friendly amenities, we all felt right at home. The friendly staff made sure every member of our multi-generational group was catered to, from the youngest to the wisest. My granddaughter loved the complimentary breakfast (way more than continental) and the great swimming pool.
A Little Rock Must
A journey to Little Rock isn't complete without a visit to the William J. Clinton Library & Museum (www.clintonlibrary.gov). The museum’s engaging exhibits brought history to life, sharing insights into the life and legacy of the 42nd President of the United States.
From replica Oval Office interiors to the narratives that weave global events with personal stories, it was an enriching stop that captivated us all. Scarlett's favorite thing was the stunning Dale Chihuly glass installment, which made my heart happy since I'm such a fan.
We dove into Little Rock's culinary scene, but grabbed food that was somewhat quick and easy, running the gamut from local breweries to Mexican eateries and retro family-friendly hotspots.
Making a Splash, Rain or Not!
Now, Mother Nature's plans for rain did not dampen our spirit. While we had plans to visit the zoo and a few other places, we changed our plans to playing games at Dave and Busters, and visiting the local shopping mall.
Little Rock might not be the largest dot on the map, but it certainly packs a punch. Rain, shine, or a bit of both - it’s a city that’s rich in history and bustling with the energy of today. It’s the perfect blend for a family getaway that’s as educational as it is entertaining.
