Duku Road, the section from Dushanzi to Kuqa of National Highway 217, is the southern section of National Highway 217 connecting the north and south of Xinjiang. It is also called Tianshan Highway because it crosses the Tianshan Mountains. It starts from Dushanzi District, Karamay City, an oil city in northern Xinjiang in the north, and ends in Kuqa City in Aksu Region, southern Xinjiang, at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains and the northern edge of the Tarim Basin in the south.
Duku Highway is a veritable landscape avenue, from the Dushanzi Grand Canyon at the starting point, to the Nalati and Bayinbuluk grasslands along the way, and then to the Kuqa Tianshan Mysterious Grand Canyon at the end. Along the Duku Highway, you can pass through Yilian Habirga Mountain, Borokonu Mountain, Awulale Mountain, Nalati Mountain, Albin Mountain, Halk Mountain, Yining and Kuqa Basin. Affected by natural factors such as snowfall and icing in the Tianshan Mountains in winter, traffic control is usually implemented from the beginning of November to May and June of the following year, and the closure period lasts for up to 8 months. Duku Highway has four seasons in a day, showing the magnificent wonders of "one-day tour of four seasons, ten miles of different days" to the majority of off-road enthusiasts and self-driving tourists.
