Winona Ryder (in an Oscar® nominated role) and Academy Award® winner Susan Sarandon (1995 Best Actress, Dead Man Walking) star in this "affectionate, superbly acted" (Los Angeles Times) family favorite. With her husband off at war, Marmee (Sarandon) is left alone to raise their four daughters, her LITTLE WOMEN. There is the spirited Jo (Ryder); conservative Meg (Trini Alvarado, Paulie); fragile Beth (Claire Danes, William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet); and romantic Amy (played at different ages by Kristen Dunst, Wag the Dog and Samantha Mathis, Broken Arrow). As the years pass, the sisters share some of the most cherished and painful memories of self-discovery, as Marmee and Aunt March (Mary Wickes, The Man Who Came to Dinner) guide them through issues of independence, romance and virtue. Gabriel Byrne (End of Days), Eric Stoltz (TV's "Chicago Hope") and Christian Bale (The Portrait of a Lady) co-star in this "handcrafted valentine" (Newsweek) of a film.

This film bows the 2019 version out of the water. Christian Bale, Susan Sarandon, Kirsten Dunst, Claire Danes, do I need to say more? The 2019 Amy was Godawful, and Merryl Streep was barely there to do any impact, Laura Dern as Marmee was disappointing. Soirse Ronan was the only positive...

@@mikejunior211 And don't forget about thomas newman's iconic score. I think Gerta Gerwig's movie is visual good to look at, but she doesn't let the scenes like the opening breathe the way Gillian Armstrong did back in 1994.

My mom took me to this in 1994 and I fell asleep (I was like 10) they can never beat this version IMO. It’s free on prime right now. I just watched it like 3 times with my daughter

Agreed, even if Florence Pugh had the best take on Amy March. Christian Bale is untouchable as Laurie in this one, and I'll gladly prefer him over Timothee Chalamet.

Marmee smacking her shoes against the door wasn't very loud, yet somehow Beth could hear that. It's very brief, but at 3:31, one of the cats is sitting fairly close to the fireplace. I love how Beth woke Jo up the next morning. The smirk she did before going over to the piano seems to suggest that she's done it before. I also love how Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy were initially excited for their breakfast, but thought of the Hummels instead and got everything together to go to them.

_Little Women_ was Oscar-nominated for Best Score, along with _Forrest Gump,_ _Interview with the Vampire,_ and _The Shawshank Redemption._ They lost to _The Lion King._ In fact, Thomas Newman was twice-nominated that year for both _Women_ and _Shawshank_ Those two were his first ever nominations and he still has not won nearly 30 years later despite 13 subsequent nods, including for _American Beauty,_ _Finding Nemo,_ and _WALL-E._

There are 4 movies version , 1933 , 1949 , 1994 , 2019 . I guess they will make a new version later . Maybe on 2030-ish xD . It will keep going and going until they try to change or modernize the plot of the story and screw it up like they do with the Annie movie . *sad noise*

@@emmamueller3921 I have watched the Gilliam Armstrong version at least 20 times. If you have had minimum reading comprehension you would have noticed I said "victimhood feminism" which is the pathetic version of modern woke feminism. The one that compels women to attack males as if all of them are compulsive tyrannical oppressors. The true feminism of the early and middle 20th century was just giving women basic rights and freedoms... the one any reasonable man can support openly.

The Custodian Helmet is the headgear traditionally worn by male police constables and sergeants while on foot patrol in England and Wales. Officers of all ranks in most forces are also issued a flat, peaked cap that is worn on mobile patrol in a vehicle. Ranks above sergeant wear the peaked cap only. However, some Inspectors wear the Custodian Helmet, but with two silver bands around the base (to match the two pips worn as rank insignia) to denote their position. Claimed by some sources to have been based on the spiked pickelhaube worn by the Prussian Army, it was first adopted by the London Metropolitan Police in 1863 to replace the "stovepipe" top hat worn since 1829. In 1863, the Metropolitan Police replaced the previous uniform of white trousers, swallow-tailed coat and top hat in favour of very dark blue trousers, a more modern button up tunic and the early type of helmet which had an upturned brim at the front and a raised spine at the back, running from the bottom to the top of the helmet, which became known as the "cockscomb".
