I just noticed that Amy touches the spot on the back of her head, right where Laurie just touched her as she walks away. As if she still feels his hand there after he pulled it back. Such a subtle little addition from Florence Pugh - even when she’s being strong and rejecting him, he still lingers, she still feels him after he’s gone.

This scene is extraordinary. You'll actually feel for Amy here. Amy is actually likeable. Like I only realised it after reading the book for the second time and I was more mature to understand where she's coming from. At first she's this annoying little brat, so ambitious and selfish, but she's a loving character. It is hard to be under Jo's shadow, as a daughter, as a sister and as an artist,a s well. Jo is such a strong character who is so much like Amy, and Amy developed this kind of attitude and character, unknowingly, I suppose, so she can have her place in the world.
@atoetral9644
@atoetral9644 4 года назад

Amy was a brat as a child LOL, but she grew up and matured. She always knew she had to marry well. Her oldest sister Meg married for love and was poor (so she couldn't help the family out), Jo was off trying to be a writer, Beth was sickly. So Amy knew the job of marrying well fell on her. She really didn't have the luxury to marry for love or waiting around pursuing a 'career' (as painter/writer/etc), her sight had always set on someone with $ so she could help her family out. The whole thing kind of reminded me of the dynamic of Pride and Prejudice characters too. The 'job' of marrying well fell on Jane, since she was the prettiest and most amiable of the Bennett sisters :D

I never understood why so many people hated Amy in the book. Yes, what she did with Jo’s manuscript as a child was terribly cruel, but after that incident she improved so much. She actually never harmed anyone after that and was constantly trying to work on herself and treated everyone with compassion. Glad they finally portrayed her like this in the movie

A part about Amy/Laurie in Good Wives, which I really love, is that when he takes her advice and leaves to work, he actually plans to work on art and music as he mentions the opera here. And he also plans to make Jo the heroine and muse. However when he tries creating something, Jo's face evades him and instead he finds inspiration in Amy (he starts imagining golden hair and blue dresses which is a sign of Amy). Slowly Amy replaces Jo as his muse. It's gradual and brilliantly written.

@@graciekh1521 that doesn't have to do with the fact that Laurie and Amy look good as a couple and she maybe reacted like a selfish baby but she loved Jo and I don't think that she really wanted to hurt her it was just a childish reaction remember that she was a child.When we see her as an adult i think that she seems more mature even than Jo. her delivery of this line is so unique. "I won't, not when I've spent my entire life loving you!" I know that Laurie is not the main character of the movie, but I think he is the one who has hurt the most, or at least one of the most. His whole life, he had loved Jo. *always* And what hurt the most about that is that she loved him too. She said it. But she wouldn't be a wife. She said she wouldn't be one to anybody, and her love for him didn't matter. So he went to Amy. And he did love her. But she was his second choice. And Amy knew that. And she also knew she deserved better. So even though it was her dream, she said no. And at the end, Jo did get married, and not to him, and Amy left her fiancee. _And Laurie was left all alone_ later, they settled. But still, a hint of sadness was in the air at the of the movie, at their final scene together. He still watched Jo

" and i will not be the person yoi settle for just because you cant have her. I won't. I wont. I wont do it,not after ive spent my entire life loving you." This broke my heart because its so relatable

This is my favorite scene in the whole movie. It’s an exquisite movie with many amazing and meaningful scenes, but selfishly bc of my own experiences this will always be my favorite bc I relate to it so much. Over the years in school, almost every guy I had actual meaningful feelings towards ended up dating one of my close friends, or like Amy Laurie and Jo, choosing my friend who was never going to feel the same way about them and just ignoring that I cared about them. So I deeply understand the “I have been second to Jo my entire life” Bc I’ve always been second best to someone else. I’d like to think that in the situation I’d have the self respect Amy has here to say I won’t be who you settle for just because you can’t have her. I don’t know if I would. But I hope so.

I love how Amy's and Jo's reaction are exactly the same at first, when Laurie proposes they both just start saying no,no,no over and over again.

Feels like a modern movie. Like this scene is a high school movie where the characters are in a costume party..

Yes. Her diction is way too modern. I hate it. Apparently we are in the minority though.
