This gem was shown every year when I was in elementary school. Even today when the box's contents are revealed... I still sob when the dog collar is mentioned...
Same here. When I saw it grade school I didn't have a dog but that dog collar touched me. I've had eight dogs and have one now..living on borrowed time due to his old age.
Me too!! I looked through the comments to see if there were any others who saw this in elementary school as I did. I can't imagine schools showing this now. I wonder if the content would even hold the attention of modern children. . .
I have always remembered this short film. I first saw it around 60 years ago. My father managed two motion picture theaters and I think it was shown during several Christmas seasons in the late 1950's. It was one of my favorite Christmas stories. I remembered best the littlest angel's favorite box of things a little boy might treasure, and that after presenting it as a gift he felt ashamed of it--and then later it had become the best chosen gift for Gd's son. Several years ago I did an internet search and couldn't find it.Thank you so much for posting it!
I first recall seeing this at the in black and white and in the auditorium at the St.Bridget's Catholic School along with other features like one of the Shemp feature of The 3 Stooges and A Christmas Carol Feature too.This is among the memories that watching this brings back.
This is my most favorite adaptation of "The Littlest Angel" story. The depiction of Heaven and everything in it look so ethereal. *Edit:* I just realized that this little boy died before Jesus was born, yet that dog collar inside that box looks recently modern.
There's a better Adaption in my opinion. In that one, the Highest of the Angels were called the Patriarchal Prophets. In a sense, they were on his case since the Littlest Angel's First day on Heaven. Also the Understanding angel was a elderly Female angel, and Later (when the Hand of God rested on the Box) The understanding Angel helped him explain the Value that the Box contained to him. Then the Voice of God accepted it as the greatest present in Heaven for the same reason in this Adaptation turning it into the Star of Bethlehem, and the Patriarchal Prophets sought to understand the Littlest angel. The Reason I like that Adaptation better is the reminder that one can forget what being young is like (Beside Capturing toddlers perfectly), and I like Full Animations better, then this Partial Animation. @@bcsviewer1 Yes I'm familiar with that cartoon although I haven't watched it (don't know where I could though). From what you described, it sounds like The Littlest Angel story is given a bit more depth with a life lesson attached to it, which I can appreciate and see why you'd like that adaptation better. I personally prefer this Coronet adaptation because of its charming simplicity with the animation and storytelling given that it's a product of its time. The art direction they went with looks inspired by classical religious paintings, especially the part where The Littlest Angel would describe Earth's beauty to The Angel of Understanding. Even the items in the wooden box seem to be painted with great care. The throne of God looks minimalistic yet delicately ethereal, as if engineered from the cosmos. 🌌 I have a really soft spot for old-timey cartoons and this adaptation of the Littlest Angel was done in a way that stands out on top in that category, so I consider this as a vintage gem. 👼🏻
This brings back many sweet memories. In the early 1950s I went to elementary school in Valley Stream Long Island. During the holiday season, we were all herded into the auditorium and treated to this film and several others. I saw it many times because I recall that on occasions when it rained and we could not go out for recess we were again shown this film and we always loved it. Of course, today this film could not be shown in any public school. I wonder now how my Jewish classmates felt when films like this were shown. As a matter of fact, when I was in second and third grade I don’t think I was even aware that there was any religion other than Christianity! Having found this gem on RU-vid I am looking forward to sharing it with my grandchildren this Christmas,
I wish there's an angel cartoon show series just like that which I have seen was one similar to Care Bears are bears live up on the clouds called care a lot, but it's like a heaven and it's not, I've never saw angels in that cartoon or heaven besides care a lot and the bears. I seen a ghost Casper behaves like an angel here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UITB_Gugnvw.html, but no wings just a halo, because he is friendly and also I'm glad Casper has the cartoon series, but not the comic called Hot Stuff that never had a cartoon who only appear in the simpsons cartoon one time as it's a shame the creator created Hot Stuff a devil boy instead of a decent angel boy maybe more like close to Richie Rich so I don't get why the creator did not do a comic on an angel child opposite to that Hot Stuff brat, cus angels are better and nicer?!
+@ChronoArcaile2019 I wish you replied just 2 months ago, because I stopped commenting on youtube some new comments, because my account is just so old now and also, because there's some nasty things happen to me on another site that I use to be fine until that damage was done that I wish it never happen, I will not tell you the website, but I'm glad you agreed, also I use to tell the Hamtaro fans to stop being into or favor a devil hamster character called Spat in English or devil-ham-kun in Japanese and I use to tell them they should be favored more on the angel hamster named Harmony or Angel-chan in Japanese like 12 years ago, but it didn't work, like when I see the poll, it was a shock more Hamtaro fans favored a devil pest then the angel one which bothers me so much, isn't that unbelieve like why wouldn't fans like that villain devil to be lesser and the angel heroine one to be higher favored? I wanted to be an animator and make my own tv show, already, I thought it be happening in the 2010s, since high school and after college I thought and it didn't happen, my manager a month ago said she tried to get me to an animation studio close to where I live, but is expansive, but I thought I want to work in Japan as an animator and then Disney too in the US, but the only one I get to do is have animation class in college was fun to draw, but I didn't get a career, also I was jealous that there was a girl who created the 2018 She-Ra almost the same age or a year apart, but not me never got a chance to direct one my own animation in the 2010s, now it's the 2020s, I still hated that I never had my own first TV show yet! I thought of that show I mention about an angel TV show, I quite thought of animation shorts like how in the 30s to 50s to had once, again or full 26 minute episodes too I kept dreaming for a long time inspired from Disney and anime, I called that I have super ideas that there's so many shorts I created in my head that it was so many to tell you. Those two names of the characters you mentioned, I never heard of them, now I'm curious to check them out. Also I wish there are more 2D animation Disney films, Disney never made an angel movie though.

I first seen a Tom and Jerry short where Tom went up to heaven, but instead he went to hell and then turned out he had a dream, but I use to wonder why he went down to that scary dog place, but not the puffy cloudy nice place where he met a white cat I thought when I was young is where I first see heaven in a cartoon, but never saw Littlest Angel Coronet on TV at all until on youtube, did you also never see it on TV channel too?
