LIVE A LIVE - A Hidden Gem 

I've been anticipating this video sooo much with how good you were talking it up on Twitter. Imma get it now, thank you SackChief.

I do actually pronounce it the way they do in the trailer, because that really is the way it's pronounced (ライブ・ア・ライブ), and I've been pronouncing it that way for years

One of my favorite JRPGs ever reviewed by the Dragon Quest Man himself? Oh boy this about to be good.

Ever since this game was announced at the Direct it’s interested me. Tried the demo when it released and enjoyed what I played. The music, voice acting, and gameplay are all great, and I like that some games to this day are still using pixel art rather than making everything 3D just to look “modern”. The game’s art style makes me look forward to DQ3 HD 2D too. Overall I’m really hoping this game does well so we can get more like it in the future, it deserves to be noticed and not go under the radar as some obscure JRPG, and hopefully your review will get more people to play it.

Glad to see so many of us covering this game. This maybe my game of the year and that says a lot when Im currently playing Xenoblade 3, and waiting on Diofield Chronicles, Valkyrie Elysium, and Star Ocean Divine Force.

I played this as a Fan Translated Rom back in 1999 or 2000 for the Super Famicom emulator. This game was clearly made on a budget but it was an amazing game even as a SNES original. And like you said SackChief i had genuine moments of shock and surprise and tears by the end of the game. I consider Live a Live one of my greatest JRPGs of all time up there with FF6, Chrono Trigger and a few others.

im very happy they brought this game over, its a shame so many great rpgs have been japan only for the longest time. even dragon quest V was for a good 15 or so years! i see a lot of people talking about live a live, so hopefully the success of this lets companies like square enix know there's an audience for stuff like this.

How is the storytelling compared to octopath? I liked octopath but what really dragged it down for me was the overlong cutscenes and the overabundance of dialogue. They were trying to recreate the '90s feel of square RPGs but seem to forget that those stories were told very concisely. It just turned into a slog for me

i had 2 issues with this game. music in each chapter is just on repeat forever its good until its not. the stories are too distinct. i hoped there would be some Easter eggs from chapters across other chapters to make it feel like im playing 1 game. other than that damn medieval era was sad. wish they fleshed him out better after he switched.

Yeah, if chrono trigger, a game about time travel to stop an intergalactic parasite infused with magic, was realistic...

You are the first one I've heard comparing it with movie narratives :D Wondered why so few people noticed this. I guess prehistoric era is just a silent film with no dialogue, so much gestures and slapstick. Still don't know what present refers to, aside from Street Fighter 2 though

HD2D is the best new idea Square has had in ages. Can't wait to see it in the DQ3 remake (though I wonder if this will be the first one of these HD2D games to launch simultaneously on another platform)

I played the Old West and Prehistoric chaptets, and I'm currently at the Imperial China chapter. The writing is amazing, but the thing that worries me is that right when the battle system starts to get fun, and my characters get cool skills to use, and cool enemies start to appear, the chapter just... ends... Do we get some fun battles with our characters, and some challenge bosses or something like that? Or is the game just 8 short (but amazing writing) chapters and thats it?

Uh the way u say live a live makes no sense either, and it isnt nintendos fault that is how the game is pronounced in japan as well fool.

Personally, I think that the next Kingdom Hearts game should have characters from Live a Live, since they have the same composer

$50 plus tax is a high asking price for a game that's only 20+ hours long.

Defiantly not a masterpiece . The quality of each chapter varies to much and the difficulty isn’t balanced and is different in each one . Still great game
