Very entertaining Q&A, I don't think I could ever get bored of Brent Spiner, he's incredible and very talented. Also enjoyed the series Fresh Hell, I had a really good laugh watching it. I wish they would come back with a 3rd season. Crazy how Brent kept saying (1:04:44) that he wouldn't ever return as Data, and then 9 years later we get to see him come back as Data one more time in Star Trek: Picard. Also rather amazing seeing the progression of technology over time - it was kinda weird watching them testing out Skype calls here, compared to now when almost everyone (in this pandemic) is using Zoom.
2020 and just finally caught up with the 2 seasons of fresh hell, I do wish you all could continue this series, but alas 7 years later it would be hard to pull the whole cast and crew back for more..
It's pretty funny how he's not a tech guy. It was his character, Data, who inspired me to major in applied physics in college. Well, techie or not techie, thanks Brent for inspiring me through your role to follow my own dreams!
This was such a treat! Cool use of new tech. Brent looks great, is great and will always be great. Nice and funny guy. Hope Fresh Hell makes it to TV. He deserves a lot more respect for the range of talent he has. Kat was a great hostess. She's a little pixie. Thanks and take care.
They actually brought the topic up in the 7x10 episode Inheritance, when Data met his mother. Once they found out she was an android Geordi mentioned that she had an aging program, just like Data. However this is a contradiction from the 4x11 episode, Data's Day, where Data and Troi discuss marriage and Troi tells him that a marriage is a promise to spend one's lives together with someone and grow old together. Data told her that it wasn't possible for him since he doesn't grow old.
Its how fans get to meet Brent more than once and he even remembers them and the closet I'll ever get to meeting him is being on the same planet as him 😭
Data actually did come back to life in the comics. If you notice, in Nemesis Data was pretty emotionless. Apparently, he didn't have his emotion chip OR they found it in the wreckage. In the comic, right when they were going to dismantle B4, Geordi installed the emotion chip in B4 and it completed the transfer of Data's memories. So, B4 BECOMES Data and also the captain of the Enterprise E right before the incident which sends Spock back in time to create the new timeline. I'm NOT sure if this is canon or not. But, at least in the comics, Data lives on. I found the end of Nemesis to be kind of abrupt. I'm a grown man and cried like a bitch when I realized my favorite character had been killed off.
Very cool show, I didn't realize that Brent Spiner is hated...I have always loved Brent Spiner and he remains, to this day, one of the coolest, nicest, most genuine ppl I have ever met at a con. xoxoxo
He’s not. It’s just the joke in Fresh Hell. He’s playing a character that is his name and the joke is that it’s him. It’s not the reality of him at all. He’s very, very, beloved in real life.
Or Data could have always said, "I'm experimenting with wrinkles. I have observed that over a long period of time, people react to the same person differently because of minor variations that occur on their face."
Since they've been able to build human-like androids ("Offspring," "Inheritance") they could have built an "older-man" exterior. He wouldn't want to look young. In fact, in "All Good Things . . ." Data (in Q's version of a future) deliberately puts grey in his hair), and transferred all of his memories, thoughts, etc. into it.
Thanks for re-uploading in HD. The other was unwatchable for me and I missed the beginning having slept in .... I'm in the UK so this was the middle of the night. Great stuff and I'm entertained for the next hour or so.
You know...I'm probably sounding like a huge Star Trek geek at the moment...but I don't care. ha ha :) Just putting this out there. I recently started re-watching some of the ST:TNG episodes and finally saw Nemesis for the first time, believe it or not. But...Dr. Juliana Tainer aka Mrs. Noonien Soong, who Data met in "Inheritance" and got to know as his "mother", turned out to be a very human-like android that even aged. Noonien Soong created her so his wife could live on in a sense. Perhaps the Star Trek crew could find a "Noonien Soong" android that was created the same way that Noonien Soong had intended for himself but never was able to transfer his memories to it. Data's memories are stored in B4. Do you see where I'm going with this? No Mr. Data makeup and we get around the aging thing. It's Sci-Fi. There is a way around everything. That is the beauty of it. :) And if it's a ridiculous concept or too much of a coincidence, you "hang a lantern on it" (as they say) and have one of the characters actually point that out, then move on. I know...I know...I know Brent Spiner wants to do other things and maybe play Arik Soong in the Star Trek reboot movies, which would be cool by the way. But it's just a thought. :)
Exactly what I've been saying. He could still play Data (who has a very different personality from Brent himself, Lore, and any other Soong family member) that while he may look like any human male Soong member, the way he talks, his mannerisms, etc., would set him apart.
Most ardent TNG fans will probably already know this, but the scene of Picard's "double-face-palm" took place in an episode called "The Offspring" where Data, after coming back from a cybernetics conference, decides to create a "child," a Soong-type android that he's designed after himself and considers to be his own child. The Captain (initially) was dismayed that Data did this in secret. Data sees nothing wrong with this, since he is PROCREATING and no one else discusses that with their commanding officer before doing so. The face-palm takes place after the following dialog. PICARD: Data! I'm not talking about parenting! I am talking about the extraordinary consequences of creating a new life!! DATA: Does that not describe becoming a parent, sir? (Picard does his double-handed-face-palm right here).
I really thing Brent Spiner COULD still do a very decent Data. He really doesn't look THAT much older (couple years is all). And would be a neat "tech" explanation for Data's "aging"
Wish circumstances would have allowed for me to see this live and ask a question. I wonder if I could have figured out how it worked. Unfortunately, I am not tech savvy either and I wonder how many other fans were daunted by the question of how to participate. I think there may have been even more participants if all the fans knew how to connect with ustream or skype. Enjoyed watching it on RU-vid but the last 11 minutes were cut! Great fun. Thanks!
I'm so sad that season 3 never got released...I'd watch endless episodes of this series. Brent Spiner is brilliant, the actress playing Dakota also was amazing as well as the writing.. Is there any chance now, in 2020, that season 3 would ever be released? Or am I just getting my hopes up?
@@bjbell52 Yes, and I´ve also heard him do an Ian Mckellan impression. He´s aware his Ian Mckellan impression sounds just like his Patrick Stewart impression. He said in a comicon. And did you know people have been saying that Tom Hiddleston should do a reprising role as Data if that ever came to be? IMHO NO ONE can reprise the role that is Data in TNG. Data is like written for Brent Spiner. Tom Hiddleston could play Data´s "son" or "uncle", but not Data. The Data character belongs to Brent Spiner IMO.
Comically ironic that Mr Spiner played the character Data in Next Gen,.the pinnacle of AI technology and in reality is technology..challenged. But a great actor.
Did anyone catch “Winter Phoenix” with her damn boob out?? You KNOW they laughed at that and you know that’s what Spiner was pointing out in his particular way. There’s NO way he missed that. So bizarre of her. Seriously.
The epic double face palm....thats from the episode were Data created Lal!!!! I am positive!!!! The idea of Brent walking around In a big costume or princess dresses makes me Rolf!! Kats question
You might want to try and get "Team Unicorn" involved with streaming garage. They are huge on the net and can help raise tons of cash for your kickstarter campaign. The 4 of them doing a Star Wars review of stupid for movies would be epic.
New Data??????!!!!??????!!?!?!!?!?!?!? Noooo what I reckon should happen is that there should be one last episode or movie of them all at this age, returning to earth. The starship should be put to rest and then maybe, just maybe a new crew could go out to explore and learn what the last have already learnt and make friends, create settlements, building and working together!
