I applaud Johnson for his candidacy, but it's blatantly obvious that he's way out of his depth and he thinks stories about his family will solve city wide issues. We aren't looking for stories, we are looking for pragmatic solutions. I'm not a huge Vallas fan, but I'm willing to give him a chance.

Mayor Lightfoot already has youth programs youth job corps is a national program already in place . Everyone can provide all jobs to youth in world if they don’t want to do it then your not changing things . @@fredy8278 I worked at 16. Harold Washington gave us a work program in CPS. The class was full. Both my children worked. I have managed plenty of young adults. Kids will work if given the opportunity. Unless you buy the drugs to sell you not making any money. Kids don’t buy the drugs they work for slimy adults who pay them $25 on a pack. Which completing is dangerous on several levels. The police or getting robbed… Kids know they make more with a job. That’s just tells your character to think like this about kids. Yes! Exactly what I was telling my wife as we watched the YT debate. We're longtime Chicago natives who transplanted to AZ in 2011, but we always travel back on vaca. What became obvious to us was seeing that that city has lost control of its law & order component. The city was safer under Richard J. Daley. Vallas seems to be a wonk, whereas Johnson does indeed seem out of his depth on details, simply spouting talking points and hoping voters won't notice. Good Luck voters!!

Politicians don't like to admit that when you tax businesses such as motels, it's just passed on to the consumer. Motel owners aren't stupid. The moderator should've brought this up.
All they need to do is add more beat cops (who physically walk up and down the street) in Little Village to reduce the robberies. Also, vendors need to prepare their carts in well lit, pre-designated areas where the beat cops are assigned to patrol.

I don't like either option but I I think I'm going to have to (begrudgingly) vote for Paul Vallas. I do not like him though, and barely thinks he even cares about Black people (I'm black). But I like his rationality. I voted for Lori Lightfoot as she as more moderate but since she no longer is an option, Paul is closer to Lori than Brandon. Also I like how Paul Vallas wants the schools to offer work study and stay open later to provide end to end services with more activities for children to keep them off the street and offer more resources. These things are very much needed. Schools need to be actual communal bases.

He says mansion, but what it’s gonna come down to is whatever the city suggest you’re assessed value of your property is. I bet you 500 K assessed property value will be considered a mansion and that’s how they raise property taxes for the middle class.

Promoting 200 detectives won’t magically reduce crimes, Brandon. It just doesn’t work like that. Promoting 200 detectives is vacating 200 PO spots. If Johnson gets elected, you’ll have a very difficult time filling those vacant spots because you won’t be able to attract applicants, GUARANTEED.

Wait so Vallas has tied our safety to more than a 1000 retired cops coming out of retirement and returning to the force? He wants to use fund revitalization for the South and West Sides with gaming revenues from the casino that "are bound by state law to be used for police and fire pensions" He reappropriated pension money to balance budgets and left the wreckage for the next administration ...and has been fired or resigned after that...make this makes sense how one could have confidence in him?
Police officers should never not answer a resident calls for assistance so when no cars available no officer on the phone is available and people need to be compensated and they should be held liable . For failing to protect and respond

@Indrid Cold I’ve given his record serious consideration believe me but from what I’ve read and WHAT I NOW KNOW about school choice - you have to look at his record in context not just the window of initial reforms. How did the his authority to reappropriate pension money effect the system LONG TERM. How did the charter school initiative play out for education in New Orleans and Philly LONG TERM? If someone pays me $200K to clean a basement and I just put all the garbage in the closet for the next Owner to find it. Is that really effective ? IJS You can make an argument for either candidate. For me personally. I’ve seen how Vallas “turnaround” plans have worked three other times. I plan to stay in Chicago for at least another decade and can’t afford another quick fix

Johnson! Better scope of the issues. Best overall plan.: homework on budget draft, homework on comprehensive crime reduction, homework on action-able affordable housing, homework on power-sharing by not having an over-reliance of City Counsel, alone - - but to make all-inclusive other socio-economic-political organizations which represent the citizens of Chicago. No Vallas, especially because he lied several times on camera about Johnson in that he kept saying Johnson was in favor of 'de-funding the police' -- something which Johnson consistently denied. So, essentially, Vallas flagrantly lied about Johnson -- perhaps 'hoping' his words would stick. This is done quite a bit on the MAGA side of things. But, as usual, it's up to the voters of Chicago. We hope the right choice is made since it's very likely that quite a few of the cops no longer on the force, were part of the problem. One thing for sure: Chicagoans may want to ensure that any re-hire police candidates are first 'carefully' vetted by community coalitions in conjunction with the Mayor's office. Reason is that, there's no doubt, quite a few of the people who left law enforcement, didn't belong on the force, to begin with - - not in Chicago or anywhere else. We rest our case.

Not to dismiss that - but now - crime is far more out of control in Chicago than it was at that time. In fact, as the stats go, in 2022, in the city, it peaked to the highest rate in 5 years - whopping 20% in one year! Gosh! That's more than enough to 'knock sense' into anyone's head! Including Johnson's. We believe he's the best candidate -- in spite of his getting 'caught up in the moment' a couple years back. Yes, you're right, Vincent -- he said it. But he's up against a lot more pressure now. Accountability would be to a lot more people. A bit older and wiser. He's aware that Chicago voters will not let him stay in office -- if he wins. He'll get recalled a lot sooner than he thinks. There's a difference -- Lightfoot had tenure. It was a different time. We don't believe Chicagoans will be so patient if the situation doesn't drastically change after first year. Most likely, there'll be ANOTHER run-off in '24 if he doesn't deliver -- if not recall. Hey Rayy, you’re not so darn bright, are you? There’s TWO men, the men on stage right in front that are up for Mayor. Ja’mal and the rest aren’t in the race anymore. I sure hope you start getting more involved with local politics and your neighborhood instead of being a month behind on what’s new. As much as we might hope to have a touch of young blood in local government, the sad reality is that running Chicago is more than a handful and really does require someone who’s been around the block more than a few times. Ja’mal is a great candidate but still needs a bit experience. Calling out the adults in the room and making it known that there needs to be changes may be beneficial but I’m just not eager to hand over the keys to the city to someone who needs more growth.
First , Chicago need a tax base. 1st get Industry , Factorys and Business back to Chicago then jobs will follow . Then familys will have a reason to stay and move back to chicago. it starts there . It always has thoughout history.

Dude your approach is from the 60s the death penalty does not deter crime because of the amount of time between conviction and execution. It’s a straw dog argument. It’s like the 3rd strike policy in California where after your third felony conviction you were in jail for life. So the bad guys knew this and so they killed any possible witnesses
