👏👏👏 Well done Karl & Crew taking this classic on ❤️ and showing how they put it all together was pure Audio Alchemy at its finest 😉 I always thought the Avalanches Above, Business Continues Below was Patrick Macnee from a episode of The Avengers 🤷♂️. The Ron Goodwin Spitfire sample is beautiful them strings are just pure audio bliss especially combined with “ I promised my girlfriend a violin “ the amount of times in the past I had that on repeat it’s one of them makes you feel good moments in a tune 👍 Nice one and keep it up 👍
The horse sample sounds very much like a the horse in “good guys only win in the movies” by Mel and Tim, don’t know if anyone has mentioned that one tho
I'm always wondering, how do those musicians actually acquire all those samples when they need them? I've been making some music myself for quite a while, but when I need something, I flip through various sample libraries I've got on my PC and that usually gets me where I need to go. I've never thought "a horse neigh would fit there, I'll cut one out from this obscure 1956 western movie that nobody ever heard of" and then spend a day to actually obtain the movie and the sample from it.. (and I'm not even considering all the work that would be necessary if those samples would have to be licensed correctly..)
Who knows. Maybe the best samplers are just really good at labelling their catalogue so they're not fumbling around when the creative spark is lit. I suspect that it's all more chaotic and unintentional than people realize. I remember reading about Tricky when he was in the studio making Maxinquaye, he would randomly grab a record from the massive pile on the studio floor and look for material/loops in that moment. Not everyone would be successful doing it that way, but it's the random nature of sampling that is one of the things I love most about it. Every track has a million different variations that could have been if the artist had just grabbed a different record from the pile in their moment of inspiration.
