Dennis Fearn was diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis, a chronic disease that damages the bile ducts of the liver. He received a new liver from his sister, Susan Brown, through a procedure called live donor transplantation. The team at the Montefiore Einstein Center for Transplantation, led by Drs. Paul Gaglio, Sarah Bellemare and Milan Kinkhabwala, were able to remove Mr. Fearn's diseased liver and replace it with 60% of his sister's liver. Mr. Fearn and Mrs. Brown have both returned to normal daily activities.
