Welcome to the live hatching of sweet little ‘exploded hairdryer’ chickens 🐔 💥
I’m here every half and whole hour to check the process and answer questions. Anything you’d like to ask? Let me know in the chat window.
These Polish or Paduan Chicken will get curly feathers and are seriously funny. A local children’s zoo has asked me to incubate this batch of eggs for them, but I’m thinking of keeping two for the feathered family .,.

Oh you hatched those punk chicks! You should know ever since I found your channel I am spending every free minute here. All my life I've been defending any kind of animals and people never understood why. Seeing you doing this gives me internal peace, and inspiration, and hope, and you should know in such messed world this is huge! A man spending all his time taking care of such tiny creatures many wouldn't even bother to look upon. You my friend are a hero! Regards and deep respect!

Alwyn, I too felt the same as you about reptiles. That they were 'cold, feelingless eating machines' that killed and helped control the rats around the farm. I hate rats. I've witnessed what the cunning wee beasties can do to chickens, piglets and other helpless animals on a farm, especially in the fall when they are seeking warm places to survive the winter. I can appreciate how intelligent they can be but the Norwegian Brown rat will never be welcome where I live. We had some pretty special native species that would get trapped in postholes dug in preparation to erect a new fence and I rescued a lot from a certain death when the time came to plant the posts. I even saved a garter snake from one that I brought back to the farm house and released it near the back door. He (I always thought of it as a he, but in hindsight, the last time I saw him - rescuing him once again from the neighbour's kids who had found him on the lawn, early one spring some 20 years or so later, and they were trying to kill him. The size of him at that time, made him far more likely a she!) was easily recognized because he/she had lost the end of it's tail somehow, fairly close to when I first rescued it as the wound hadn't completely healed. I had spotted him at least once a year while I was living at the farm, hunting the back yard for slugs, earthworms at first and moving up to mice and maybe even rats when I last saw her. She was just shortly out of hibernation and was quite stinky, especially after she had been attacked by the kids. I admonished them for trying to kill my 'pet' snake and as we held her hostage on the lawn, I gave them a lesson on the value of these snakes on a farm. I think I may have saved a lot of snakes that day... as she slithered off into deeper grass, likely carrying a belly full of developing babies. Some years later, I'm in a pet store with my grandson whom I doted on. In his hands, a Royal Python! His mother had deserted him at 18 months, leaving my son alone to raise him.. I became his mother and grandmother at that time, taking care of him while his father worked. We had discussed his having a snake as a pet, had researched them and came down to two possible candidates, this Python one of them. I'm going to shorten a tale that could fill a novel down to that the snake went home with him, cage and all needed to provide for his care. Shaka made an interesting pet and I did become rather fond of him. Then his mother returned and the situation became such that Shaka had to find a new home... with me. He had visits with my grandson but always had to come home with me. His traveling 'cage' was a zipperedv pillow case in a box, inside another box. Once when I returned from such a visit, I took everything else into the house from my car... several trips back and forth before returning for Shaka last so I could devote some time and attention in returning him to his home inside my home. But the box was not heavy enough! Shaka was a bit under 4 feet in length so it was easy to determine that he was not in the box! It was full dark outside and a quick search of the car didn't turn up any snake! I feared he would escape the car through an open door as I searched so I decided to close up the car to wait for daylight. No snake... food (prefilled frozen white rats, reheated to body temperature) and water left out went untouched... he had escaped the car and was lost in a northern city where winter would certainly kill him... on returning to my car a few months later - fall and cooler temperatures were upon us - dark came early and it was near dark when I was returning from having shopped for some school clothing for my grandson. I opened the door and as the light came on, something reached out at me from the steering wheel! Shock and a great fright were quickly replaced as joy flooded my body - Shaka, safe within my grasp and I could return him to his proper place. He eagerly sought the heat of my body. He was so thin and dehydrated. I had about an once of water left in my water bottle and he greedily sucked it up from the bottle cap as I carefully added more and more until it was all gone. I had to get him home. I had nothing to secure him in and home was about 20 minutes away... I had no choice. I had to of put him on the passenger seat, with its heater on, cover as much of him with my one hand and drive with the other... at one point he got too hot and he began to leave the seat. I was on a highway with a lot of traffic. I couldn't take my eyes off the road. I feared he would disappear before I could restrain him... but something happened when he could no longer feel my hand on his body... he turned back and sought out my hand, snuggling under it... looking for safety... and he stayed that way, moving off the heated part of the seat but keeping my hand on his back. Snakes do have feelings. It's just harder to see them. You have to be really observant of posture and body tension or not. He did bite me, twice on two separate occasions and both were entirely my fault. I had handled food that had been overheated and had checked the temperature to see if it had cooled off enough for him to eat it... he was hungry and I forgot to carefully wash all the scent off my hands. He struck so quickly, threw two wraps over my hand and just released and melted away, knowing 'he' had made a mistake. It happened so fast he was releasing me about the time I was about to react! Teeth so sharp and so many that I didn't even feel the bite until he dropped away! And bleed? I needed to apply pressure for some time to get it to stop. But it was entirely MY carelessness and he NEVER intended to bite ME! So would I get another? Not for myself but I wouldn't hesitate to support a child who wanted one as a pet. Royal Pythons are also known as 'ball' pythons for their habit of rolling into a ball to defend themselves. Males grow no more than 4 feet in length and are unlikely to cause harm to cats or dogs, so are fairly safe around other pets so long as they don't attack the snake. And with an adult present, they can be 'played' with, curled up in a ball or wound around an arm. They do respond to gentle petting - up to a point, when they will try to leave. They like body warmth.

This made my night! ♥ I have one question for you Alwyn: do you eat poultry (or even meat in general) since you rescue chicks and other animals? I am a bird owner (although I own parrots, not chickens) and I sort of feel bad eating chicken. I have at least sworn to never ever eat quail or quail eggs, they look too cute and the fact that supermarkets sell fertilized eggs makes me feel a bit nauseous about buying them. My friend's sister raises chicken with a rooster probably fertilizing most of the eggs and they have no problem eating the eggs before they develop an embryo, but I don't think I could eat those eggs tbh. I know I probably come off as hypocritical lol
