Spoiler Alert: The Hyundai Kona Electric does not have more range than the Kia EVs. If you want to buy a Kona, reach out to Peter directly, and he'll connect you with our management team to get you one. However, we think many people who are interested in the Hyundai Kona Electric may be better suited with a Kia Niro EV, or a Kia Soul EV.
Thanks for watching!

Real range is NOT what comes from the Car’s dashboard as the indicated range depends on how the software is programmed. You need to drive the cars under the same conditions and the same route to compare. So saying the Kia has more range without testing is not a fair conclusion.
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 3 года назад
I totally agree! This why again and again, we're seeing our Kia EV's getting high 400's and into the 500 kms for range, and we're not hearing of Kona's getting significantly more mileage. These cars will ALL get the mileage that you see in these videos. I know, because I've done it, and many dozens of our customers are consistently getting the numbers that you see in this video, and much higher. So, yes, I completely agree with you, but in this scenario, 3 new cars, on the same days, in the same conditions, are all predicting range based on the software that they come equipped with, and you're not seeing the 30 kilometer advantage that the marketing material shows. What you see in this video reflects what we're hearing from our customers.

@@BrantfordKia your bound to hear more from Kia owners as your a Kia dealer. I’ve owned both cars Kona first and now the Nero. The Kona definitely did more miles per kilowatt than the Nero does. I know one RU-vid blogger who hyper miles his Kona and is regularly getting 6.5 miles per kWh. I used to get 5.2 in the summer time on mixed driving in my Kona.
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 3 года назад
@@wobby1516 That's a fair statement. If you hypermile both cars, one may win. My argument is that our dealer group owns two Hyundai stores, and one Kia store, so we hear from plenty of Hyundai buyers as well. In real-world driving, with feedback from a large variety of drivers with several different cars, we're seeing very similar mileage from all of our EV customers with this platform. I stand by the statement that if your SOLE reason for buying the Kona is for the extra range, you may be more satisfied with a Kia product. However, if you like the Kona, absolutely that may be the best car for you.

I just bought a 22 Kona Electric and in the summer my screen says 515 kms range at 100%. I will see when it gets colder , how much that changes
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 3 года назад
Yeah, that's not uncommon. Efficient drivers are seeing over 500 on a regular basis. I would say that average drivers won't see over 500 all that often, but they'll be in the upper 400's in the nicer weather. Thanks for sharing!

$45,000 for an EV or $25,000 on a sub-compact. Though I went with the sub-compact, always an interesting watch. Keep it up, Peterman.
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 3 года назад
Yeah, EV's aren't for everyone, but the choice that I made was just under $40,000 for an EV, or just under $40,000 for a similarly equipped small SUV. I traded an AWD powertrain for an Electric one and haven't had any regrets. EV's aren't for everyone yet, but it's not purely about the economics of it all. The dollars and cents aren't as far away as you would think for some people.

Kona 2022 460km. It s more efficient than older model and than KIA
@4canjeep455
@4canjeep455 3 года назад
I bought the 22 Kona Electric preferred so I could get cloth seats and the large 64kwh battery. With Kia you need to upgrade the model to get the bag battery. That was the deciding factor for me. My car was $44900 and the similar range Kia was $52000+
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 3 года назад
Yeah, the Kona came back at a VERY competitive price for 2022. That changes the landscape a little bit. It will be interesting to see what happens over the coming months and years in this market.
@wobby1516
@wobby1516 3 года назад
That range test is a bit misleading! I’ve owned and driven a Kona Electric for nearly 2 years. Ive now owned an E Nero for the last nearly 3 months and can definitely state the Kona had a better range. It’s not so much as to really bother about but never the less was around 20 miles. It’s stands to reason as the Kia is a bigger car, the stats may not look a lot different but gosh it’s is and the reason I choose to trade the Kona Electric for a E Nero. Both cars are brilliant but the Kia in my opinion has the edge.
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 3 года назад
Yeah, so my argument is simply this: If you're buying the Kona SOLELY for the range number, you may be better off with the Kia product as the range numbers being reported from our Kia and Hyundai owners (we own two Hyundai stores as well) If you like the Kona, you should absolutely buy the Kona, but if you like the Kia product but think the Kona is going to consistently get you more range, that isn't something that always works out the way the marketing numbers may suggest.

Hyundai products just seem to always have the latest and best electronics in them, maybe that has something to do with Hyundai owning Kia? Kia has the Telluride and that vehicle is the one that is better then it's twin the Paleside.

You Know you are compairing 2018 basic kona model With 2019 and 2020 superior trim soul and Niro models, right? Kona 2019, 2020 and 2021 has a 10 inch central screen. Also the your range "test" is wrong. Range depends so much on the way you drive the car. Why didnt you show the average kw consuption per 100km of all 3 cars? Maybe you would get the answer you are looking for.

Great stuff Peter...I bought a 2023 Kona Ultimate and absolutely love it...any one of those 3 is an absolute winner though. I agree the rear seat/trunk space is the winner for Kia but I never sit in the back seat! 🤣 We have gotten up to 535 km on a full charge but now we are heading into winter so the range is going to take a hit but an awesome vehicle in any case! Hi, I’m seriously considering the E Soul here in the U.K. I had a diesel Soul several years ago and loved the drive, comfort and practicality even though the boot was on the small side. The E Soul retains that individual styling and excellent visibility all round, great to park. Plus I really like the infotainment system. Great review. Thank you for taking the time to doing this. Love your novel Teddy Bear boot space indicator - a surprising outcome for the E Soul. Greetings from Cumbria in the U.K. Stay safe and well.

Hyundai and Kia are joined at the hip at head office anyway, and the Kona is built on the same platform as the Seltos. Too bad there's no Seltos EV yet.
@BrantfordKia

So the Kona and the Kia Stonic actually share the same platform but the Kia Seltos is on a different platform. I wouldn't expect a Seltos EV, but EV's are coming from Kia! Stay tuned!

Niro has the most interior volume, but the Soul often feels more spacious to taller people. The Kona is a little smaller, but a lot of people love that vehicle too.

Yeah, it's what we had available that day. Keep in mind the car business is a little nuts right now with low inventory everywhere. Right now it's very difficult to get three vehicles of the same class in a similar trim while drawing from 2 local dealer inventories. When we had all three of these in stock, we decided to make the video. Not fully fair, but representative of what's available.

The one plus for the Hyundai is they have three trim levels - the mid-range Preferred trim has the heat pump, which is good for me living in the oh-so-cold prairies. I do like the Niro, however. Will the 2021 Niro have an additional mid-range trim that aligns with the Preferred trim in the Kona?
@BrantfordKia

Funny you should mention that. There is a new mid-range Niro EV for 2021 that adds heated seats, heat pump and battery warming tech.

@@BrantfordKia Iphones work so much better BUT just try asking your Nav system to "Find the nearest Superstore" or "Find the Real Canadian Superstore". There are so many things that it can't do like finding an exact address by number, street, city, province, and country (Canada). If you don't say the province (in BC), it says "Sorry, I don't understand." If Apple ever released an iPhone that was so bad and unintuitive, everyone would trash the company for putting out such a crappy Beta version.

@@ReevansElectro oh, I hear what you're saying. Yeah, I'll be honest, almost all of us that work here use Google Maps or Apple Maps on our own personal cars. Using the factory navigation is on par with other car manufacturers, but a step back from the iPhone and Android voice recognition systems.
