It was so great filming this. There was one part when June Carter would just be rubbing Johnny's head telling stories. The whole crew would be sitting around as if we were at a campfire. We were like, "Tell us another story June!" She was a wonderful woman.
You can tell they had a great Time together. I love this clip of those great artists sitting, singing and talking together. This is music history right here. /CD
@@larryshapiro6115, Well, you certainly did a wonderful job! I love all of the Highwaymen, but Waylon is my all time favorite. He converted me to country music in the mid 1970’s with the “Wanted - The Outlaws” album, and I followed his career until the day he died. I still listen to him almost daily. Thanks again for a great piece of work.
They were funny and respectful. My husband worked with John Cash.. audio engineer...I worked for Little Nashville Opry. I stood in the back hall, one night and talked Waylon. And only in passing with Willie... but Kris. I never did get to meet.
One of the best super bands ever! Love these guys. I'm only about half their age but I look up to their musical prowess with the utmost respect. The talent that flowed from these four men is absolutely amazing. I even like to play their songs for my children and now they are growing up to love them too! So glad we still have Willie and Kris. Miss you Mr. Cash and Mr. Jennings. As a side note, I also miss you Mr. Haggard. He was also asked to be a Highwayman.
Great this was captured for posterity. We'll never see the likes again. 4 true country artists - amazing insight into them. So humbling to see genius in action and so funny as well. Waylon is a truely funny and grumpy old man lol.
Willy's guitar trigger is an amazing instrument, millions of notes and strums for millions of people around the globe and that thing is held together with toothpicks and glue and sounds as good as it did the day it was finished. I hope when he plays his last note it's with trigger around his neck and that guitar is placed in a rolling museum on willy's tour bus so we can all see the magic guitar
1 of the best documentary's of all time!!! I havn't seen this in a long time. CMT use to play great things like this. Its a shame what its turned into. THANKS TENFOLD FOR POSTING THIS !!
Waylon and Kris are neat. They both have very different ways of seeing things. Waylon likes concrete ideas and solutions, whereas Kris seems to be confident even amidst abstraction. They're both so cool to listen to!
Trying to keep the music and spirit alive still, but you guys will always live forever no matter what, I won't stop playing these songs till I'm old and grey, 18 now til as long as I'm alive, It would have been an amazing experience to see these guys perform in my life time!
This is freakin IRONIC. I wrote a song related to all these guys called A Dying Breed, and Waylon sings a song and says, Living legends are a dying breed. Wow. This is great footage.
Freaking awesome! Loved Johnny doing "Live Forever" solo. What's with Kris's hair? Looks like he's wearing a rug. Some serious guns on that dude, though. Willie rules. Think how many cigarettes have been smoked amongst that group.
They were all good friends, especially Waylon and Johnny, who shared an apartment together in Nashville when they were just starting out. This video was really awesome!
They all got choked up at one time or another during the filming of this. But they laughed more during that whole week we filmed. Willie was in trailer smoking pot with Kris most of the time.
@@VAHOSS, So you’re saying that liberals aren’t Pro American??? Obviously, we have different ideas of what being liberal means. The 1984 song, “America” that Waylon wrote and sang shows Waylon’s diverse - and yes, LIBERAL way of thinking. That song was actually ahead of its time. Waylon did not belong to any particular political party, but voted for the man he felt most comfortable with. Waylon was also an agnostic for most of his life, until he gave his life to Jesus on the Thanksgiving Day of the year before he died. Maybe you should read Waylon’s 1996 autobiography, or the autobiography that Waylon’s son wrote about his father. Don’t listen to the audio versions, because they leave a lot out. You just might get a different view of Waylon’s beliefs.
You must have just fallen out of a dinosaurs ass . More talent in that man than anything you have ever imagined . Just look up the number of songs he has written and who went on to record the millions and millions of records that were sold . Terrible thing to say when you don’t know about someone at least do a little research !!!!!!!!
R P, Are you serious???? Kris has always admitted that his singing is not the greatest, although I personally like it. But, in my opinion, Kris Kristofferson is the greatest songwriter who has ever graced us with his lyrics.
Kris has always admitted that his singing is not the best, although I personally like his style of singing. Also, in my opinion, Kris Kristofferson is the greatest songwriter who ever lived.
The guy is unbelievably talented. He catches a lot of flak on these Highwaymen posts but the guy was a scholar, a songwriter, an actor, a soldier, a helicopter pilot, an athlete and the list goes on and on. Had the guy been a great singer he would have had a monopoly on talent. He could and did do practically everything but sound like Elvis.
@@jimrichards1798 , Exactly! And because Kris’ passion was in music, instead of a military career like his father, his parents disowned him. From what I have read, the parents refused to reconcile with Kris even after he became a big success in the music industry. Thank God Kris had the fortitude to follow his own dreams, because now we have all been graced with the many, many beautiful songs that Kris has written. I believe that Kris Kristofferson is the greatest songwriter who has ever lived.
