Sheikh Yusuf Abul Mahasin Tajul Khalwati Al-Makasari Al-Bantani (3 July 1626 - 23 May 1699) was one of Indonesia's national heroes. He was also dubbed Tuanta Salamaka ri Gowa ("Lord Guru, our savior from Gowa") by his supporters among the people of South Sulawesi.
Sheikh Yusuf was born to Abdullah and Aminah. At birth he was named Abadin Tadia Tjoessoep or Muhammad Yusuf, a name given by Sultan Alauddin (ruled from 1593 - died June 15, 1639, the first Muslim ruler of Gowa), the king of Gowa, who was also a relative of Sheikh Yusuf's mother. He received religious education since he was 15 years old in Cikoang from Daeng Ri Tassamang, the teacher of the kingdom of Gowa. Sheikh Yusuf also studied with Sayyid Ba-Alawi bin Abdul Al-Allamah Attahir and Sayyid Jalaluddin Al-Aidid.
