Came across this amazing bit of work from the ‪@thelastoutpostworkshop‬ it lets you view the live state of the GPIO pins on your ESP32.
Check out his video here: • Revolutionize Your ESP...

Pretty amazing stuff!

@atomic14, I appreciate that, having stumbled across something interesting, you took the time to make a short video showing us what you found and what it does, without feeling the need to drag it out to a lengthy video comprised mostly of filler. This tasty morsel was perfect.

Thanks! The channel with the video I saw it on goes into a lot more detail - so no point me doing it.

I just watched this exact same video a couple hours ago :D Definitely worth a watch! I've saved the video for later for when I eventually start using ESP32's in projects

Very useful. I have been building projects using the ESP 32 for many projects over the past few years. It would have been so helpful to have this to troubleshoot. Thanks for sharing this capability and how to set it up.

No problem - all credit is due to the guy who wrote it.

I find a scope better with a lot less s/w and h/w overheads and no loss in performance. But still looks nice and shiny Happy new year and look forward to more coming in 2024.

Right! It's great and all for those who don't use the radio in a project but who the heck is using the esp32 without the radio these days?

@@str8upkickyaindanuts289 I agree who would use a ESP32 or 2866 for a non wifi or bl project. its a matter of picking the uC to meet the needs be it low power, high speed, high pinout, etc. no one chip does it all.

This would be really cool if you could do it over JTAG (which wouldn't need to connect to any external network, and would start up faster). I don't know enough about it, but that would make this a no brainier for all projects

Very true, but I think the nice thing about using WiFi is that you don't need to wire anything up. What might be quite possible would be to use Web Serial to connect to the device and have a custom serial protocol to stream the information. That would remove the need for a good WiFi connection.

@@atomic14 That might be a bit more practical, but I think that could potentially use more resources on the esp32? With the esp32-s3 too, you can just connect 2 USB-C connectors to the board (where they have 2 connectors) and connect to the JTAG interface without any external hardware (I’m pretty sure at least, from what I’ve seen)

What a great tool. I will use it for sure. Thanks and I sub'd to him. Bringing the multimeter or scope just to check the state of pins, was such a pain. Probs slip and short out the neighboring pin.
