LIVE: How to fix KB5034441 - Windows 10 Update Error
"2024-01 Security Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5034441) will not install on my Windows 10 computer"
PLEASE NOTE - For some people, this issue was easily resolved by simply enabling TPM in their BIOS (on any Intel 8th gen or new CPU) to allow the operating system to access the TPM. Then the update works!
For others, Microsoft has provided a script fix mentioned here in detail on how to run a script that increases the size of the WinRE partition.
#1 - In the Windows search, Search for Windows Powershell, right-click it and choose run as administrator.
Next, execute this command:
set-executionpolicy unrestricted
Afterwards, select Yes to All (pressing letter a) when prompted. Keep the Window open.
#2 - Download this script file, 1.ps1 located here:
drive.google.c...
Make two folders on your C drive root, with names 1 and 2, so their paths are as follows:
C:\1
C:\2
Copy the script file you downloaded into folder C:\1
Back in the Powershell window, navigate to the C drive folder using this command:
cd C:\1
This will ensure the folder which contains the script is selected. Now, we need to run the script, which increases the size of WinRE. For that, run the following command:
.\1.ps1
Press R to RUN ONCE
When asked for backup folder, type:
C:\2
When complete, close all open windows, go back to Windows Update and check for updates and KB5034441 will install without any further failure notices.

Alternatively, you can hide the problematic update, too. The link to the troubleshooter to permit hiding the update is below:

Please run the tool(ignore the safety warning as the tool is from Microsoft), click Hide updates, and choose the update in the list.

I'm currently using Toshiba laptop Windows 8.1 computer (hdd) transplanted into a 14 year old Gigabyte PC that I found homeless on the curb a few years ago. I'm old as dirt, and have been self taught computer nerd since 1977. I moved away in 2011 into the medievil world of snail net, and was incommunicado with tech as it jumped into overdrive. Still trying to catch up with tech. Can't share my Wyze cams oto my Roku or any computer connected to my computer, including a PC running Windows 7 Professional 64 connected in another room wirelessly. GFiber won't port forwardm, unless I'm not doing it right (Most likely my error). So, I'd appreciate if I would be chosen to receive one of those Windows 10 Refurbishes. TYVM In Advance. Thank you, Carey. I found your very useful video last night, the day after it was live. I downloaded the ps script, followed your instructions, but there were errors when the script ran. I checked the update download, still have the same error. I checked the disk partitions, and there were 2 partitions instead of the single partition I was expecting. I have a copy of the PowerShell output, and can probably get a readout of the disk structure. I hope there was just a PS setting i had wrong. Any assistance would be wonderful. THank you again for the video.

This script works for 90% of people with the issue. The other 10% is a mixture of issues that are a mess to straighten out. I suggest you can hide the problematic update. @@CareyHolzmanThank you Carey. One problem may be that had Powershell in Constrained Language mode. If i change that and rerun the script, will it work properly and merge the two partitions? Also, i have tried the troubleshooter, and nothing seems to happen.

Thanks you very much for posting the KB5034441 fix. In January I ran wushowhide.diacab program to hide the update. I followed your directions here on this video and updated my two PC’s. My Intel I7-10700K that I built two years ago following your build video’s and my old Dell Inspiron 17 laptop that I bought in 2014. Still runs good after installing my Samsung SSD. Didn't work on my MBR, CSM machine. I have old 32-bit Windows 10 machine with small Recovery Partition. So, I used Acronis 2019 ISO boot media to clone, twice. Once to larger disk, and back to the original smaller disk. On the clone process back to the Original disk, I used Manual partition copy to resize the Primary MBR partition a few 100 MB smaller. You can calculate how much less you need to make the Recovery Partition larger. I did the mathematics to make the Recovery Partition 1024 MB. So, now my Recovery Partition has grown from 430 MB to 1024 MB. I've been using this process inside a virtual machine that has been experiencing re-boot failure after Windows Update. Finally got 2024-03 Cumulative Update for 32-bit systems installed.
