Funny fact> Cariocas, people who are born in Rio de Janeiro, make this /ea// sound so easily. It is natural to them. I know because my nieces and nephews are all Cariocas. If you are a Carioca, say the word Flamengo. See the way you say the wound /e/ in Fla MEN go? That's it. Man, van, band, Sam, hand, ran, tan, pan, lamb etc. Great lesson, Rachel.

The following is a translation of the poem into American English, capturing the emotional essence: --- **Evening has fallen, O Hussein, though your peace remained in that era, Since the time when horses trampled you, and they never relented. Ten horses, and you stood alone, your body left with nothing. The one who took your pinky, may his hands be paralyzed.** --- **Night has come, my brother Hussein, and with night, the darkness deepens. I came to you, running from the hill, without any hesitation or shame. Your scent, O Hussein, guided me to where your blood was spilled. The pain in your crushed body, brother, cannot be healed.** --- **Brother Hussein, the night has come, and men walk slowly, I came to you, O soul’s beloved, how can I embrace you now? My hands are tied, and you, with countless wounds, You lost your neck to the sword, and I lost my back to the whip.** --- **Bless that dark night, for it provided me shelter in my struggle, If only the ground had a voice to tell you of my state. Running is not for a fifty-year-old, and orphans are abandoned, No one to make amends, no shade to offer relief.** --- **By your side, I found no traces of a woman; I found a broken heart, Brother Hussein, my sight is gone, as she cries beside you, who is she? The one who lifted her veil brought water, but she couldn't drink a drop. At times she cries, "O slaughtered one!" and at times she cries, "O captive!"** --- This translation attempts to capture the poetic tone and intense emotion of the original, while adapting the language to American English.

Sure! Here’s the English translation of the story: Here is a sad story about Imam Hussain (peace be upon him): On the day of Ashura, when Yazid ibn Muawiyah’s army gathered in Karbala to confront Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) and his companions, it was an unequal battle. Imam Hussain had a small group of his family and companions with him, while Yazid’s army was large and powerful. In that painful battle, Imam Hussain knew well that the end would be his martyrdom and the martyrdom of his loved ones. However, he did not hesitate to defend the truth and the religion. One of the saddest moments of that event was when Ali Asghar, the infant son of Imam Hussain, came into the scene. Imam Hussain carried his small baby and asked the enemy forces for just a little water for the thirsty child. But instead of responding to this simple humanitarian request, one of Yazid’s soldiers shot an arrow that struck the infant in the neck, and the child was martyred in his father’s arms. This incident embodied the deepest aspects of injustice and cruelty faced by Imam Hussain and his family in Karbala. The martyrdom of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) and his companions on that day became a turning point in Islamic history and a symbol of steadfastness on principles and sacrifice for the sake of truth.

Hi Rachel, have you ever had any students who have learned to speak indistinguishably from native speakers?
@rachelsenglish
@rachelsenglish 20 дней назад
Yes, it is possible! Every student is different, and "native speaker" English can sound different depending on region, but I've seen students achieve very smooth, natural-sounding American English pronunciation.

British English uses the AA sound, but not in all of the same words as American English. If you're wondering if a word uses the AA sound, check a dictionary to look for the British vs. American pronunciations.

The second girl speaks so good, but the pronouciation is like she's Italian or so. All the words are placed a bit right next to the teeth. When you make your mouth a little open, the teeth are almost touching, and the tongue is somewhere nearbuy, you can speak likewise. But her vocabulary and speed of talking are inspiring.
