As a kid we used live snappers for fluke all the time, I don't do it anymore with the advent of gulp and I just looked it up, bag limit is 3 per day, so technically you can only use 3 snappers as bait.
My great aunt held the world record for a decade around that time. Her and her husband ran a charter out of Greenport way back. Wonder if that was hers. Now I think the current world record is from Jersey
@@Bsprecksfishing East end of LI in the fall is the place to be if you're looking for world class fluke. The entire population is headed for their winter grounds off shore and feeding as they go. The snappers (young of the year blue fish) have joined the migration and make perfect baits. You can catch your bait with light spin gear and a small chrome jig or spearing for bait all over LI.
Hey - Great vid - If you want spearing use - Canned sardines in oil!! you wont believe how they come in, only open the can 1/4 way! Also Deeper water = bigger spearing.
