Hey Luke, love your videos, one thing I wanted to suggest, to use vacuum with a brush, it will make the cleaning so much smoother and you won’t have dust all over. Just a thought.
it’s most likely not gonna be announced on october 13th, but there might be another apple event at the end of october or early november, so apple silicon macs are gonna launch by the end of october or november
I'm very impressed with how you disseminate information about Apple Macs its so refreshingly interesting and inspiring.. I've been burned a couple of times with an Apple Mac Pro and Apple MacBook Pro. The fact you can upgrade these computers with up-to-date stuff amazes me..
Yessss!!! That is the same Mac I have as a restoration project, Luke! Still sitting with a damaged screw in the motherboard only.... have a brand new bottom for it, and still have to get a new full display assembly
I was given a late 2008 MacBook last month. It already had a 256 ssd but I upgraded the ram to 8g. I use it to run Serato DJ Pro and runs flawless. I run Catalina on my 2015 MacBook Pro how did you get Catalina on this machine? I’m running Yosemite on my 2008
And did you know that one layer of yellow J-cloth over all the intake vents will prevent 99.9% of all dust from getting inside the computer. Now this works particularly well on desktops and should work equally well on laptops. ONE layer of YELLOW J-Cloth as a dust filter and does not in any way interfere with ventilation or airflow. Food for thought. I have had my desktops filtered this way for years. About once a year I look inside and not a spec of dust to be found... so I know how well this works. #ThinkAboutThat
@@philhunt1442 Some different densities of the cloth. I am most used to yellow J-cloth, so it's the one color and density I recommend. Others would probably work just as well, as long as YOU can breathe throw the cloth then the computer should be able to breath as well. Anyway this works for me on a desktop computer, I have no idea if it will work on a laptop. I wouldn't have one of those if they gave me one FREE. Want to know why? Ask Louis Rossman. (grins)
@@eWhizz You only need to run a vacuum over the outside of the cloth once in a while to free up the pores in the cloth. Then maybe once or twice a year remove the cloth and wash it then replace it. This is what I do, and I do NOT have dust inside my DESKTOP computer. It works for me.
Q: What spray do you use for cleaning the computer out? Next question, where did you get the dusting pen from? And the final question, what did you use to clean off your CPUs? Thanks a bunch for your help!!!
Hellooo~ I just read your comment, and hope I still got to help you. The spray that Luke used was just a liquid cleaner for electronic devices, the dusting pen is an oxo's Good Grips electronic cleaning brush, and what he used to clean the thermal paste from the CPU was isopropyl alcohol; a type of alcohol that is good for cleaning electronic parts because it evaporates pretty fast and doesn't leave liquid residuals, the alcohol is sprayed on a microfiber towel. I think all those products can be bought on electronic stores like Best buy or by Amazon.
I'm very curious how catalina runs on that machine, Im contemplating using the patch for my macbook but i don't have a start up disc for Yosemite just in case it does not work. I'm new to messing with these machines...lol
Excellent video! I am going to my local repair dealer to just give him my old MBP 2012 complete with box and reconfigured reset with 1tb SSD - just because he's a great guy......
Hey Luke, could you point to a video of yours, if you have it on the best way to sell your mac on eBay. You got me started upgrading a 4,1 and mine now screams but need to sell it. I am afraid to sell it without seeing the best way to do so. THANKS if you see this!!!

Oh man, I had this machine... Loved it while it lasted, died WAY too soon. Watching your videos certainly wish I had held on to it and tried to fix it/ get it fixed.

The best thing about Mac Book Pro is the upgrade and operating system they haven’t gone crazy and revamped the whole OS so we can hang on till the unit is just a Dino
It is true that they are hot lil computers I just keep mine on a flat surface it’s easy to put in your lap when not at the desk and definitely makes a heat difference

I have a 2007 iMac that is in great physical condition but Apples not giving it anymore software upgrades, how can I upgrade to Catalina, anyone can guide me through the process?
Luke I just bought macbook pro mid 2012 in great condition, did some upgrade's, ssd and max ram, new battery, clean install, liquid metal on cpu, and overall cleaning. Really like to watch your channel, and now have one question, will display port will work with my 3440x1440 x34a monitor? Can't find any information. That is my first macbook, and forgot to search for that, waiting for package with miniDP cable
I have one like that 2011 Model Name: MacBook Pro Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,1 Processor Name: Intel Core i5 Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 2 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 3 MB Memory: 8 GB I didn't know I could upgrade, the battery is almost dead, would that cause it to go slow? Waht can I upgrade to make it faster 16gb ram?
I would always run Mojave on this older machines since you can still use 32 Bit Apps and MacOS Extended as your Filesystem which makes the bootup time shorter because it doesn’t need to run the patch stuff
Luke, I have a 2019 MacBook Air that had a coffee dumped on it. Apple wants $800 to fix it. We are going to get a new one. Screen still comes on. What should I do with it? From watching your videos I can see that I could part it out and sell what works. Is there a company that could fix it for less? Please help.
hehe, I like Kos's comment in the superchat, "I wish the MacBook Pro has a super beast of a processor. I am getting tired of overheating low efficiency intel processors" looks like his wish finally came true.
Hi, I live in Dominican Republic and I’ve been trying to buy a used MacBook Pro on Amazon but the once that show up are above 1000 dollars. I’m trying to get something used that I can upgrade for a music studio. It’s been my dream to build a studio but money is really hard to get here to waist on a brand new MacBook. Can you tell me what website I can used to find a old and use MacBook for cheap?? And sorry to bother, just trying to get some info.
I had a really nice MacBook, that after some time seemed too slow to me doing some simple tasks, so I ordered a SSD, RAM and a replacement battery. But after upgrading SSD and memory, it still seemed somewhat strangely slow, like a handbrake was pulled. Unexpectedly, it got faster after finally the replacement battery arrived in the post, even when I used it with the power adapter. I could even measure by repeating the benchmark, it really was significantly faster.
@@ignxdank Yes, I got my old MacBook and tested this again by running it without battery at all and is true indeed. This is most likely also the fix for Luke's computer. My battery at the time wasn't even 100% dead, still some minutes, but the MacBook obviously behaved like there was no battery inside. Actually, the third-party battery I bought still is very good, now also 3 or 4 years old. A good investment.
I would like to Know if I can run Catalina on a 27" Mid 2011 Imac , 3.4 Ghz intel core i7, amd Radeon HD 6970m 2048 mb. I am running High Sierra. I am fairly new to macs and still trying to get my head around it. I had windows for 7 years. I had the offer to buy this imac when someone was having a clear out befor they moved I paid £250 for it not sure if it was a good deal or not. ~Does have SSDs in it and not a fusion drive.Any advice would be greatfuly recieved great subject matter thanks from the UK.
Luke, I am impressed with the easy you do this upgrade. Now I have a question I have an MBP mid 2012, 10.1, 4-core i7, 16 GB mem, 520 GB ssd.I am running Big Sur 11.7.10 with the help of OCLP and I would like to upgrade to Sonoma but The 2 video cards (Intel HD graphics 4000 and NVIDIA Gforce GT 650M) are not compatible and the root patch of OCLP does not help either. Installing Sonoma was smooth but the resolution is so high that all text is unreadable. Do you have an advise for this issue?
