Join me on the Angling Trust - RiverFest Qualifier at Abingdon. With two internationals in my section the odds are stacked against me, however I draw an end peg and I'm in with a chance. A lovely days fishing unfolds and see how I go about attacking the River Thames. #fishing #matchfishing #angling #riverfishing

Excellent video James. Thank you. First of yours I have watched. Enjoyed your relaxed commentary. Thought camera work very good. Really liked the close ups of the float. Best compliment I can pay you is to say that I am a keen follower of Jonny Arthur videos and thus was up there. Please keep river match footage coming.

Thanks indeed Rob. Glad you enjoyed and I’m still looking to improve on the visuals so that bodes well. Yeh Jonny is a big influence on the filming style and I enjoy his vids too. Might squeeze one more river match in later in the year, commercial silvers for me atm but I’ll have a go at RiverFest again next year!

Yeh like to get out as much as I can John, time consuming game putting it all together, but now I've got a few weekends back I'll have more time to edit. Hope to see you on the bank soon!

It might be a very simple question and answer, but still like to know I’m still very new to river fishing especially pole fishing on the river. I do a lot of commercial pole fishing but when it comes to silvers what elastic are you using in this video as it seems to be very very light, also what top kits and pole sections are you mainly using? As it seems to be your top kit, plus the number three and maybe a number four section I am also very local to Abingdon and the River Thames is not far away from me as only down the road in Didcot so keen as mustard to get on the river but I do not want to re-elasticated all my pockets. Each time I go from commercial to River. Ideally, a cheaper river secondhand pole might be the option to look at but what??

So with elastic you've got to suit the size of fish and depth of water. A good start point on deep rivers like the thames is a solid 6, that's the yellow one in video. I step up to a black 8, when I want more control. However light hollows are a little more reliable and tend to go back into top kits better, something like a Preston 9 Hollo would be a very good all round elastic. I've got Top 5's of a Daiwa pole setup here, you can get away with 4's, but 5's let you have more line above to 'trot' the rig more. I'd stay with the same pole and have a look to get some spare 4's/5's if you've got something like a daiwa there are loads on ebay etc. Hope that helps Sick

@@jameslewisfishing thanks mate appreciate you getting back to me so quickly! when you say a solid six what particular make we talking Preston Drennan ete. Looking at a pole about 12.5/14.5m for my boy abit of an all rounder secondhand I believe will be best site reasonably cheap enough, but I can get a few extra sections I can say fours and fives! He uses the edge monster from Preston 10 meter, but struggles to hold it at that length as he is only nine years old But a young up-and-coming, Angler. Also what camera equipment do you use an edit software? as we are trying to get our self a RU-vid channel set up and promote/review items weekly of what he uses in his matches.

Yeh I do like the preston solid 6. I couldn't point you in the direction of best new pole in that bracket, best bet go to a tackle shop with a pole alley and have a waggle, see what he likes. Second hand wise I'd personally go Daiwa, an old Whisker or Spectron would be ideal, do be careful though even at 12.5/13m, especially in wind, can be a lot of strain on a young person. Camera wise Gopro9, they'll do a deal black Friday and I use a free editing package called Da vinci resolve, quite complex for beginner but plenty tutorials on youtube etc (Imovie is a great start point if he has an ipad)
