Help for skip in group setting - fella eats breakfast but will not eat lunch. Says he just had lunch. He's slim so I worry. We honor his desire to not eat. Is delaying better or just a change in scenery? Changing his table mates? Other ideas?

Hi, @AngieCousin, Thanks for commenting. I'm wondering if you would like to talk with one of our consultants (consult@teepasnow.com or 1-877-877-1671) to discuss more specific ideas for your situation.

A lot of older people with dementia have vision limitations or even hearing issues and I wonder how this further complicates dementia when it comes to dealing with day to day actions, feelings and inclusion in activities and social situations. How can staff or loved ones alter things to help these people feel more comfortable and included. I find that activities directors and aides often do not plan for or address these people when they plan for events and activities.

You raise some good points, @mrs.e3909. How can we help care partners? That's what Positive Approach to Care is all about. Check out www.teepasnow.com and share us with those who might benefit from learning some new skills.

Yeah, my mom is virtually deaf & limited vision … won’t use hearing adis. It’s a challenge. I asked the optometrist about her peripheral vision but it’s next to nothing b.c of her eye sight & cataract. Can’t use as gauge for stage of dementia

Hi, @janetpogue4970! I hope that this message is a reminder to yourself to rewatch or was it something else?

Can’t we just tell them something like “HEY! Uncle Berry; you have got dementia. Your brains playing tricks on you! You’ve already peed, there are no PEOPLE IN THE CUP. Stop banging on the tables and take shower before I tie you up and wash your like a shorn sheep🤬” And follow through on your promise so they would never forget where not getting a wash would get them.(tied up on the bathroom floor, with soap in their mouth.) Wouldn’t that help fixing the dementia symptoms?

Hi, @OssamabinKenny, you ask some interesting questions, but trying to explain things or ask someone to understand logic or reason will not work when their brain is no longer processing that type of information. The symptoms of dementia can't be fixed as there is no way to stop them once they've started. However, if you would like to learn more, please check out (teepasnow.com/about-dementia) or contact us at info@teepasnow.com to talk.
