Vehicles are transitional spaces. You are very vulnerable in a car and it's proper procedure to get out ASAP to allow for shootin' and movin'. If you're in the vehicle and it's in drive and moving, fine. That vehicle is maneuverable and it's your most effective deadly weapon at your disposal. If you're standing outside the car on your 2 feet, you're able to duck, run, jump, open the door, and most importantly, you're able to draw your handgun and fire shots that are totally unobstructed. As a private citizen you should ALWAYS get out of the car with a purpose and quickly when you're parking it, but that goes triple if you're a cop on duty in uniform. The perp on the call may be cuffed already by other cops, but it is common for ambushes to happen when a 3rd party rolls up and starts shooting or runs up and tries to stab or club officers just because they have a bone to pick with police. As a private citizen, we face the danger of being ambushed in a robbery, like at a gas station. There's no better robbery victim than someone who's the type to pull up, turn off the car, start the gas pump, and then go sit back in the car to wait while it's filling up. If someone runs up and has a gun drawn on that driver, they are most likely helpless. Even if they have a CCW gun, drawing from a seated position in a car from concealment is just not happening when you're looking down a drawn gun. 🤷🏻‍♂️ You lost. You need to comply and hope for mercy. If the robber has no mask on, I got bad news for ya...that means he or she isn't worried about you being alive to describe their appearance later.
