LIVE: Post Office Horizon IT inquiry continues with former Fujitsu engineer to give evidence 

Why would all of those involved appear to have signed a witness statement which was made up by lawyers? Why would they feel the need to sign them and then go on oath to say that what they said was going to be the truth and nothing but the truth? My personal feeling on this issue is that every single one of them have had legal advice as to what they should say and what not to say. That is why we are all hearing say many of them using the very same words such as “ can’t recall” “just can’t remember” “ I was not aware of that “. There are a lot of similarities to them using the words “ can’t recall “ on a very particular subject which cannot be co-incidental or can it? I am astounded as to why so much bonuses were paid to so many when none of them appear to take responsibility making decisions.

This “Distinguished Engineer” surely cannot be as thick as he makes himself out to be? If so he is, then how the heck did he get the job?

He seemed so relieved that he had been able to answer the odd question correctly.

I suppose he is correct regarding the software's culpability. It did rely on a ginormous swiss cheese series of stupidity, idiocy and malevolence to line up, in order to to enact the miscarriage of justice.

He knew remote access was possible, but didn’t know it was happening until 2018. WHY didn’t he tell someone when people were imprisoned or did he tell someone how to manipulate the figures ?

Gareth is being made the scapegoat for the miscarriages of justice which was due to the failure, stupidity and incompetence of highly paid legal professionals. The taxpayer is picking up the charges for their failure, stupidity and incompetence.

This is why jobs should be allocated as prizes following success on TV shows. Fair enough he won series 2 of Robot Wars with his re-purposed bread bin, Destruktatron 2000. That didn't make him suitable to develop accounting software or expertise in a legal setting about his creation. It should have raised alarm bells when he was give the task of inventing Horizon and he said 'Ill give it a go' before going to the local tip to extract a boot full of broken washing machine cpu's.

The truth will be impossible to ascertain because it involves human nature and software. How many times has software caused disruption ? The Post Office is a huge organisation relying on a piece of software operated by thousands of people involving billions of pounds…..a recipe for disaster. How many people have had problems with their on line banking and credit cards? The problem with the post office was the denying of software failings and being unable to separate computer failure from human failure.

I don’t think he is up to speed on all this?

This gent is a software engineer and they seem to be setting him up . He needs legal advise . All these legal questions should not be answered by him . The average person would not have a clue what their duties might be in being a witness. .
