As far as mastitis we've dealt with it once so far is after the cow was dried off. She got into a dirty spot (a vacant shelter I had just pulled the bedding out of - think yucky aneorbic bacteria) and laid down. She would have died without antibiotics, so I treated her. Enjoying the program.
Takota, thank you for these QA. Do you use AI or natural breeding when you rebreed the cows and do you raise you own replacement dairy heifers. Are the calves pure or crossbred. TY from the south east USA.
As for AI I can share what's been extremely successfully for us. We keep a steer big enough to heat detect (by mounting). We use a sticker called an estrotech heat detection patch that tells us when to breed out cow. Use an AI tech not a vet, they have better success rates and cost a LOT less.
