What a terrific show! Astounding to have Norman join in - that says a lot about your visibility, and the significance of what you're presenting. Was fantastic, educational and inspiring to watch. Thank you!
This happenstance shines such a great light on both Norman and Karl. Obviously you came in well prepared, but the way you turned this reconstruction stream into a live interview on the spot was remarkable. Making accessible the passion behind works like these is so enriching, and you did an amazing job incorporating and communicating insights from the first hand creator! And what a pleasure for Norman to be so approachable! Kudos and thank you for this piece of inspiration.
LOVE this. This probably makes me sound old, but younger folks today have no idea just how ubiquitous this track was around the turn of the millennium. It was EVERYWHERE. And for good reason, as this detailed deconstruction shows.
This is insane ! Huge fan of Fatboy Slim since my childhood and still today As a big fan of your channel for like more than 1 year now, I would never have guessed that Norman himself would show up .. Amazing 🤩 Thanks for the Livestream ✌️✌️
Great video, Karl. Was obsessed with Fatboy Slim when I was a kid but never realised how much effort went into making his music. Your video's given me a newfound respect for Mr Cook's work. A delight to watch
A couple of samples from Norman's tracks that haven't been approved by whosampled yet: Guitar in Weapon of Choice = Average White Band - The Message Synth riser effect in Right Here, Right Now = The Flirts - Danger Also there's stems for Weapon of Choice and Love Island available online, you can use them for reference, and there's a drum machine loop in Weapon of Choice's stems that Norman might be ok to tell you where it's from Also, in regards to Rockafeller Skank, the intro break source was found - Wind - Groovin' With Mr. Bloe, this is what's probably layered on top of David Bowie's drums for the rest of the track.
Wow, you are a wealth of information! Thank you for sharing. Mind if I ask where you got this info? I am going to check each one of these out right now. I'm working on Weapon of Choice and RHRN. Just checked out Wind - Grovin' and it has to be the one. Going to pop that into my deconstruction in a minute to take a listen.
@@KarlBoltzmann I got this info from knowing the people who found the samples. We're all hanging around in Sample Hunting discord server, a lot of stuff is found there regularly, but because nowadays it often takes a while for whosampled to moderate submissions, this info becomes easily publicly available with a delay.
@@Dr_JackHammer Oh hey Dr. JackHammer it would be interesting to join the discussion on Discord cause i've been sample hunting Fatboy Slim tracks for almost 10 years, it would be nice to add a few bits of info I know that haven't yet been mentioned on WhoSampled...
I love the fact you didn't completely fanboi out when Norm entered the chat and kept it solid and professional. What a fantastic interplay with the original artist!
@@KarlBoltzmann Absolutely! I'm pretty sure I looked funny when he introduced himself. Like in a Looney Tunes eyes on stalks kind of way. Very nice bloke indeed. For a hardware sampler guy like me that's a bit like bumping into Jesus at Starbucks. 😂
First time viewer just stumbling onto this here (as RU-vid has clearly caught onto a recent interest in learning a "little something" about producing with samples), but wow, that was bananas! Even just catching the replay the next day here felt like quite the vicarious experience. Super rad of the man himself to hang out and share so much!
Thanks man! I haven't put this out there yet, but Norman is joining me again this coming Sunday on my livestream while I deconstruct "Weapon of Choice" at 4pm est. Should be fun!
A couple of weeks ago I watched the film Strange Days for the first time and out of nowhere I heard the sample for "right here, right now", it absolutely blew my reality apart. It took almost 25 years for me to hear it.
I remember loving that movie. And yes, it is mind blowing what Norman can do with just a few words of dialogue. RHRN is such a great track too. One of my personal favourites.
This is great but I can imagine you were feeling a lot of pressure. You did well in keeping it together. I'm watching 6 days after the stream and I got drawn in so much that I started to try typing a question. Of course I can't because its not live. Your channel is full of great content, Thanks
Now we just need you to rebuild the entire album. You've Come A Long Way Baby is a 90s masterpiece and basically what introduced me to electronic music.
@@KarlBoltzmann oh fantastic . As said before Karl you have fantastic ear and skill . You should look into running a patrion account and earn bit cash for your time on these deconstructions . As always I going ask you kindly share this abelton project . Can I donate sum money to you in pay pal … I really appreciate and enjoy these videos
neat! just wondering how you know the samples/where to find them just from listening to the song? (such as knowing the piano sample previously) new subscriber btw cheers can't wait to watch all of this !
great breakdown! random question.. do you sing at all? you're blessed with a bad ass high tenor talking voice. id bet you could sing soaring high melodies.
That's maybe the nicest thing that's ever been said about my voice. Thanks for that. I do sing, but a lot of that music has never seen the light of day. Maybe one day.
Incredible video and great watch. So so dope. Some unsolicited RU-vid advice - if you change the title to something like "chatting with Fatboy Slim while recreating Praise You" it might get a few more eyeballs.
I've found the absolute best tool for hearing all the different elements in a song like this, and I"m being dead serious here, is a reasonable dose of magic mushrooms. You will hear elements of songs you had no clue were there but can suddenly hear in absolute crystal clarity. It's astounding. What a good place to be. Now, I'm not advocating you use this method, especially not if it is illegal where you live but if you're in a country that doesn't care too much then it's just something to keep in the back of your mind. Also, what a fucking trip to have Mr. Cook stop by. Talk about your very own Happy Hour.
Weird question: How are you routing the audio from your app to the stream? Is it an actual direct source somehow, or are you just picking it up with your mic?
1:30:28 Could it be Arnold Schwarzennegger’s phonemes rearranged? All the phonemes of “pazoomas” match his - keep in mind that it’s overdriven/distorted audio
Isn't that the same deal with Scar Tissue by RHCP? His guitar was out of tune on the b or e string, and it made the iconic sound that we know. Big part of why people covering the song almost never sound quite right, no matter how well they play the part.
big news! the rocafella vocal sample has been discovered. It's jay z. Edit: It's the acapella version of who you wit if you wanted to know. Here is a breakdown of how it was sampled: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1guShlnbB0Q.html
