U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who came under scrutiny for the agency's failure to prevent the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, has resigned, according to two sources familiar with the decision.
Cheatle had faced calls to step down since the shooting at a Trump rally on July 13, which left one attendee dead and two others critically injured.

@@WolvenBolt Some people here claim resigning is different from quitting, but as far as I know, quiting/resigning means you don't get severance. Firing you could get your severance, unless they have solid legal grounds to fire you (caught stealing or breaking NDA or something like that.) But all of this might be different when working for the government, especially at high levels like this, I don't know.

She was a 27-year secret service agent before she retired in 2019 and became head of global security at PepsiCo. She held that job for three years before the Biden Administration hired her as SS Director. I’m not defending her record as Director, it was a dumpster fire. Just for the sake of accuracy though, she did have years of relevant technical experience - she obviously lacked something in executive skills and a sense of accountability.

After he carried a rifle climbing the roof, he was still a suspicious person until SECONDS before he made his first shot that they classified him as threat. After he fired 8 shots at least, the SS snipers used 1 bullet to take him down. 😃😄😀 Former director Cheatle emphasized repeatedly that a suspicious person is NOT a threat and there was nothing they could do about it, especially when he did all those suspicious activities outside their security perimeter. In the highest position of the SS we have someone who blatantly without a flinch conjured safety as the reason why a SS officer could not be on the sloped roof, not considering her sniper was on a roof with a steeper pitch. To lie so comfortably tells me that she became the director under reasons that were not determinate on qualifications. After the major incident, she became the Incident Commander who should have responded to the site without delay, yet not only did she not respond without delay, but she never went to this site. She sabotaged herself. It's apparent that she is not a leader, but she is a process person.

The ONLY reason she submitted her “resignation” is because she can keep full benefits. It DOES NOT go on her record of employment history as a negative tick. Andddddd, she can actually reapply to the SS & work there again. She WOULD NOT be prohibited from working for FBI, CIA, homeland security, etc. had she been fired, things WOULD be VERY different. Why do people keep bringing the information she provided to the ABC news reporter. I don't understand how people don't see the bad analogy. She wasn't under oath with the reporter. She was also asked to provide facts, but facts are "the truth about events as opposed to interpretation". The best answers she could've provided to many questions would've been interpretations of hearsays because she wasn't there. She answered MANY questions that were asked as personal interpretation rather than facts.

As she should. Deputy director and head of Pittsburgh office should also resign. But I think it was degrading to swear at Cheatle, call her a DEI hire and tell her to go back to guarding Doritos. She had 25 years honorable service as a secret service agent. That counts for a lot IMO. I also admire her stoicism. She comported herself far better than any commentator posting here would have.
