Years ago I bought one of these flare guns and removed the barrel. I had a friend of mine who was into melting and casting metal create an exact copy of the barrel, except out of iron. We fired about 25 rounds through it before the plastic handle of the gun started to melt.

So in theory you could use a 12 gauge chamber adapter to fire 9mm, 10mm, 44mag, 357/38 etc out of this flare gun because the adapters act as the barrel & breach while containing the pressures inside of it. They're short enough to fit in this flare gun and you can always bore the plastic barrel out so it will fit if need be. Since you don't need paperwork for chamber adapters or for a flare gun, you could have an unregistered single shot firearm and no one would ever know, to them it's just a flare gun. Interesting.

Nice! Not sure if you’ve seen one, but there was a cool military 10 gauge flare pistol from the 1940’s called a Mark 5 Signal Pistol. They had aluminum barrels and my grandfather told me that they would self-destruct when loaded with a standard 10 gauge round. Thanks for helping me envision what it looked like! Great content!

I just found out that there's 26.5mm and those have 12 gauge inserts some of them are only hardened poly, but they have hardened metal ones I'm sure could handle a shell.

Flare guns are not toys or propper shotguns & many parents will be saved some grief by their incouragable sons clicking on this video after getting some "ideas" . The original flares used the mini-shells now popular with shotguns in general, and I have a number of those flare shells still unfired. But it was a very low pressure shell, barely more than a primer load.

Some firm made a metal version back in the 50's or 60's, I had one in the 70's but only used it firing rock salt & 2 flares

That was very cool. I was recently pulling for a shooter on High 8 in Skeet, it was super windy and hard to hear, so, I was standing right behind him and about 1 foot away form his back when he yelled pull. At that point the top half of the chamber blew off due to a bad reload. Thank goodness no was hurt. But, at least I get to see what it would have looked like in slow motion. Thanks for the vid(s)

They work surprisingly well when the lip of the inside of the barrel is filed down just enough for a 12 gauge to (insert any handgun caliber round here) adapter to fit inside. Not that i know from experience or anything... 😉

The flare shot (Secondary for pyro and soldier) Always crits 100% chance to kill user and target by explosion. Has a decent range of explosion. Chance to not kill the user but mortally wound user for the rest of the game. Mortally wounded effect: -25 hp +75 damage for all weapons -always have a bleed effect that lasts 2 seconds acfter being shot at / hurt by meelee -Always as slow as a heavy for crawling

This just proves that putting inappropriate ammo into a weapon is a very bad idea. It doesn’t matter if it fits or not.

I have an old Remington Mark 3 Flare gun from WWI. It's 10 gauge. People often ask if I could shoot a 10 gauge shotgun shell out of it and my response has always been "I don't know but I don't want to try it" lol

When I was in high school, a friend and I took a grenade we bought at the local Military Surplus store that had a hollowed out bottom. We melted led and filled the whole. We then took gun powder and filled up the grenade, capped it and inserted a very long wick. We took it to the river bottomed, lit it and ran to hide behind a hill where we could watch. It was an awesome explosion!! Never seen anything like it in my life. Pretty cool!!

i made a homemade pipe shotgun which i have upgraded to a pipe pump-action shotgun over the years. it looks like an M1014 now because of all the parts i have added, such as a tilted M4 SOCOM stock and some Tactical rails for mounting all sorts of goodies. and have a viking foregrip on the pump of it. i am as of now trying to make it semi automatic so it can basically become a home made DIY M1014. i started on building it when was 7, and made a functional break action pipe shotgun after i became 9 years old. been working on it ever since. it is a really good shotgun as well surprisingly enough! reliable, wont ever jam, low recoil due to the vented barrel and cannot be broken by any kind of internal combustion of different shotgun ammunition, as i made a mechanism a few years back to prevent such a thing from happening by releaseing the pressure through a funnel going above the barrel itself and releaseing through two specially made release vents right above the exit of the barrel.
