it almost felt like being there with you, very instructive. I have been using your technique of docking (where to sit, preparation, people tasks) for a bit: it works very well, and it makes the crew feel very "in control", thanks so much for your continuous sharing.

Same here, missed live one, but so great to see single handed challenges and solutions. And yes, as someone asked, please, post one on putting up/down the main sail single handedly, it’s a great idea for a video!

Hahaha I have put that video request on my list! Thanks for dropping by and watching the replay.

Thank you for this stream! Was really looking forward for some actual footage of the Hanse 460, as I like this boat a lot. Sailed Hanse 455 this year, and found it very nice, but 460 seems to be even better. One other thing - I was surprised with the fact that you have missed your first docking attempt - that makes me think that we all learn as we sail, regardless of the experience ;) Good luck and see you on the water someday!
@45DegreesSailing
@45DegreesSailing Год назад
We certainly do! The day you think you have nothing to learn is the day you should not be on the sea. What I hope people can get out of that is it is completely ok to bail out and start again, reset your line, or your nerves sometimes! Identifying early that you will not/may not make it is the best way to ensure that next time you will. Glad you enjoyed the stream :) Full review coming of the 460

Really interesting. I'm now worried as I have a hanse 460 booked for September, twin rudder, which may be hard to park!!!
@45DegreesSailing

Twin rudder? Hanse 460 is not twin rudder!

Great video! I would have worried the most when you put it in forward during the turn, with a head wind! The boat reacted, but with twin rudder you need forward motion for it to work.. no propflow over the rudder.. why did it work?
@45DegreesSailing
@45DegreesSailing Год назад
Because it’s a single rudder! Would not have tried it with a twin for exactly the reason you said :)
@SailingK2H
@SailingK2H Год назад
@@45DegreesSailing haha that explains. Looks like a rather small rudder for the size of boat.. als during sailing the autopilot was giving quite some leeward rudder to keep it on course

Thanks for the stream, Nick, enjoyed it a lot! To your question, the more stressful part when docking stern to is timing the start of the turn into the slip while compensating for cross wind with neighbor boats' mooring lines being out there. So balancing between not catching someone else's line (especially with twin rudders), timing the start of the turn and the speed, slinging the bow into the wind, etc. This specific point in docking is the most stressful. Do you just go by the feel of the boat or is there a guideline for it? Would appreciate it if you could do a video on this. Thanks for what you do! 👌

Hey Sergey, thanks for the comments! Yeh I think you hit the nail on the head there that is the hardest part to judge, and as I have experienced, that hardest part to teach! "But you told me to turn later last time we did it!" lol, as the conditions are almost never the same, there is no position or formula that gets it exactly right, hence the stressful nature of this manoeuvre. I will put my head together with some others about this and see how I can best virtually teach this. Thanks

so the big question, and be honest, if you could have either would it be the Hanse 460 or the Moody 45DS? (seeing as Moody is owned by Hanse these says anyway)
@45DegreesSailing
@45DegreesSailing Год назад
Look thats... not really a realistic question stand alone.. These two boats are, in my mind, designed for completely different scenarios and sailing styles. Over here in the med, I would choose the 460 for open plan, air flow and summer living/sailing. If I was in Fiordland in NZ sailing mild summers and cool winters I would choose the Moody for its pilot house and cover. Very situation dependant. Cannot say I love the Moody design though.
