I am sewing as I watch. I have a customer reconstructing job. I try not to do that very often. But she loves this piece so, my soft heart agreed. I hate things going to the trash.
I know this is an old video but I want to tell you about my "bump-free" Clamps that I use. DO you know who Nicole Webb/ Wilde is? She is a personal friend of mine and she came up with this design. I used to use the yard stick holding up the clamps on either side and I hated fussing with it all the time. HER invention is nothing more than a Triangle of decorator type fabric (so it's more sturdy) and there is a strap sewn to the point of it and has a bit of velcro at the end of it. When I put it on the quilt I pin it on the long side (opposite the strap) and then pull it taught to the bar on the side that has the other side of velcro. You don't have to mess with it but the very first time you put it on. You just unpin and pin it again when rolled forward. There is no clamp and it is flat so will just pop up if it gets close. You NEVER have a clamp to bump into. I don't know why she never marketed these but I love them. Ps, I also know Renae, the inventor of the red snappers and the owner of Quilts on the Corner. She is one smart cookie!
Thank you for sharing your edge to edge rational and its skill building benefits. My machine came with pantographs and groovy boards which I have yet to use. My frame has an auto advance motor. Lining up rows would be time consuming. I'd come to the conclusion I would be well into the next row possibly second by the time I ran it back and forth numerous times. I prefer free hand but this gives me another option.
Hi Susan from Concord, VA. I have a Qnique 14+ that I have been quilting from for 2 years. Love doing free motion and ruler quilting and have had the opportunity to quilt for others.
I have tried panto and I get frustrated. Too much time, stopping and starting and I feel uncomfortable standing behind the machine and not looking at the quilt while working. This is just me of course. I do have a question, and if you don’t want to answer here but privately I understand. Do you do your own machine repairs?, or do you send the machine out? If so, where? I live an hour from Spokane. Thank you.
I do as much of my own maintenance as I can figure out, and after that I reach out to my dealer. I have found that I can learn a great deal online from other folks who have experienced and solved the same problems I encounter.
Susan, I am a longarmer with a computer system. To save time and missed points and intersections, I don't used E2E motifs that have to be matched precisely. Instead, I look for motifs that can be easily positioned by eye and have little, if any backtracking over previously stitched lines. Also, I tend to add patterns to my digital library that offer good coverage even when enlarged and have more curves than points. The machine slows down for points but maintains a higher speed for curves. Also, I look for designs that coordinate with patchwork themes and give nice texture but are never outstanding feature of the quilt. I was saving a quilt top with fussy cut squares featuring landmarks in Sitka, Alaska. I thought it would need custom quilting but last year, I realized my confidence and skills would not allow for custom work, so I being a fan of your large wishbones or interlocking loops, I chose a similar digital version and I must say, it was perfect. The quilt is now the show piece in the guest room and the fussy cut blocks are the main feature but the quilt is securely but unobtrusively quilted and would withstand use beyond its current one as a wallhanging. I wish I had your skill in longarm free-hand quilting but my skills never developed past a few large meandering motifs. Being more proficient in technology, a computerized system was the logical upgrade. Besides, pantographs taped to the table looked like back-braking work and I flunked tracing in art.
