As ham radio operator, I have to say you did an amazing job as net control. Even the scratchy one you were typing stuff in and I could not figure out how you were getting anything out of that static!

When you get really good at something, you can keep those skills for your own use, or you can put those skills to use for the benefit of others. Emily and Clark are prime examples of how the great skills they've acquired through study, trial and error, and then accumulated experiences, can benefit others. It is not easy to put oneself out, but one thing I have seen is that boaters generally develop social attitudes that have been lost in most communities on land these days. It's nice to know that such folk still exist in America, even if not on the physical homeland, but on the waters thereof...

Thanks! It keeps my brain alert in the morning. Also, I've gotten good at hearing particular voices through static. Also, people will announce the same things a few days in a row, so some of the things I had memory of from earlier days! -E

Hello Guys! I just wanted to say that I'm so psyched to have discovered your channel. My wife and I are planning to embark on some extended cruising as soon as kids are out of college, etc. Having vicariously attended your Cruiser's Net discussion really made the whole future dream seem very real - thanks for that! I love how you both are so involved with the cruising community and are giving back with so much of your knowledge and expertise. Bravo to your example of how to pass along good karma. Cannot wait to be a part of it someday...! p.s. Clarke - not sure if you are looking for suggestions for future vids, but if you would ever consider an instructional on dinghy motor maintenance (specially as it related to cleaning / servicing carburetors), that would be awesome. High on my learning list before we leave the docks! Cheers, from your future neighbors in a few years lol

@@Clarks-Adventure Curious: how does Georgetown change over the year in terms of cruiser population?
@Clarks-Adventure
@Clarks-Adventure 5 лет назад
There used to be more boats here. Peaked out at over 300. This year the peak was about 200. The big difference is the land tourists. So many resorts and rental houses.

Hi just watched wow this was a cool video , so I took a look at the history of your videos and watched your brokerages videos , can I ask if you have heard of( online trading academy) and if have do you think it would be a good training class to learn how to trade , but when I saw Emily do her trade I'm thinking I don't need to spend 2,500 to learn how to do what Emily did in a few minutes . I would like and value your opinion . Oh I live in Bremerton WA . so I'm going to start watching your videos from the start .
@Clarks-Adventure
@Clarks-Adventure 5 лет назад
I know Bremerton quite well. I would sail down there and anchor off the shipyard when I lived in Shilshole. You have to make your own decisions but I think paying for instructions on how to invest is crazy. The brokerage houses make it easy to do, that's their business. I will keep giving advice. Got one on how the market works coming next month and we finished one on why you need to invest. It's on patreon now (we always put the financial stuff there first for those who are supporting us). Should be generally available in a couple of weeks.
@corybrown994

thank you@@Clarks-Adventure I'm thinking that online trading like your doing is the way to keep the funds coming into the account while sailing , soon I will be leaving Phinney Bay and heading south I'm thinking I will be gone four years or more, thank you for your help and I will go see Charles Swab in the next day or two.

Good luck Cory. If you find the Washington/Oregon coast challenging stick with it. It's some of the worst sailing and life gets easier south of San Francisco. PS. If you are dying to pay someone for investment training how about joining our Patreon page?

How far away to those radios reach?
@Clarks-Adventure
@Clarks-Adventure 5 лет назад
That kind (vhf) should be good for 25 miles reliably. A really good installation like ours has been known to make good contact at 300 miles. A lot of the radios you can barely hear aren't good installations. Everyone is within 2 miles. The black radio (hf) below the vhf can make content half way around the planet. -C

@@Clarks-Adventure wow! Need a license for those like HAMs?
@Clarks-Adventure
@Clarks-Adventure 5 лет назад
Yes, but they are really easy to get now. You don't even need to learn Morris Code anymore. I believe I'm the last guy to have learned code for a HAM license.
@joelvoss1226
@joelvoss1226 5 лет назад
@@Clarks-Adventure Not more than 2 miles and barely reaching you? They must have been using hand-held units AND were below deck. A 4 watt transmitter with antenna on deck transmitting over water should have been heard loud and clear. Hope they don't need that radio in an emergency!!!
@Clarks-Adventure
@Clarks-Adventure 5 лет назад
Exactly! And the sad thing is many if the "bad" radios are 25 watt installed units. It usually is bad antenna wire, original from the boats manufacturer. One guy actually had his antenna wire tied to his shrouds. It all comes down to bad maintenance. When you need one of these you NEED it!
@Miguel195211
@Miguel195211 5 лет назад
Why do some boats radios have so much static and others don't?
@Clarks-Adventure
@Clarks-Adventure 5 лет назад
Usually it comes down to poor installation or bad antenna wires. The farthest anyone on the net is from us is 2 miles. These radios should be good for 25 miles and I've made useful contacts on mine out to 300 miles a couple of times. So the real reason their signal is bad is they don't care enough to fix their problem.
