Someone give this guy a medal. Can draw, teach, and knows his medicine. Thumbs up! Also to guy below, he drew 1 artery for each organ just to summarize blood flow with those organs. They weren't the focus of the video.

1. Cystic ducts comes from the gallbladder, not the liver. 2. Bile passes through the bile canaliculi , not through the sinusoids.

Notes: Liver located under ribs. Has 4 lobes Bile duct comes from liver and galbladder Cystic duct comes from liver Blood supply: Aorta-> oxygenated blood to tissues-> hepatic artery, intestines is mesenteric Then blood will be deoxygenated and then blood will go to liver then portal vein which brings nutrients from other structures. Vein leaving liver is hepatic vein. Liver has oxygenated blood by right and left hepatic arteries. Vein leaving the liver towards the heart right, middle and left hepatic vein which connects to inferior venacava. Portal vein: brings in nutrients. Hepatic cells organization: Organized in hexagonal shape called lobular which have hepatic liver cells and there is central vein which connects to hepatic vein. Sinusoids connect with portal triads which are: 1.portal vein 2. Bile duct 3. Hepatic artery. All 3 connect to central vein and it’s how liver receives oxygen and nutrients Liver has special cells kapffer which are macrophages Cells produce bile and gives it to bile duct -> galbladder

you said the sinusoids run from central vein to portal vein, while not incorrect, this gives the impression that the blood flows from central vein to portal vein where this is not the case. blood flow in the lobule is centripetal meaning the blood flows to the center of the lobule from the portal triad. It would also be useful to mention that the bile ducts are fed by microscopic ducts called canaliculi, these run beside hepatocytes collecting their waste products including bile, and the bile flows in a centrifugal fashion, from center of lobule out to portal triads. Beautiful drawings as always

I agree, when I listened to the presentation it gives the impression blood flow is from central vein to portal vein, when in fact is the opposite. It is important this is clear to understand the pathophysiology of many diseases. thanks for the presentation otherwise, really great.

Excellent video. One point: You consistently state the hepatic artery provides the oxygenated blood to the liver, while the portal vein provides nutrients. In fact, the portal vein provides more oxygen to the liver than the hepatic artery, due to higher volume.

Careful: The bile duct from the portal triad does not connect to the sinusoids or the central vein [incorrectly stated as "...all these three [portal venule, portal arteriole, bile ductule] connect to the central vein" at 5m50, also incorrectly drawn at 6m40 with portal triad connecting with sinusoid]. The portal bile ductule connects to the bile canaliculi, which are completely separate from the sinusoids. The canaliculi drain bile made within the hepatocytes, and direct it to the portal bile ductules. Blood and bile do not mix in the sinusoids. The bile is travelling in the opposite direction to the blood, toward the portal areas. Within the liver, the bile remains in a completely distinct system from the blood, and drains into the duodenum.

Sir, you'll have to paraphrase your explanation of the biliary tree. It's anatomically incorrect to say "the bile duct coming FROM the LIVER and the cystic duct coming FROM the LIVER." The cystic duct comes from the GALLBLADDER. The right and left hepatic ducts come from the liver which joins to form the common heptic duct. The cystic duct and the common heptic duct fuses some few centimetres below the point of fusion of the right and left hepatic ducts to form the common bile duct.
@beejayolorunfemi9350
@beejayolorunfemi9350 10 лет назад
common hepatic duct* The common bile duct then fuses with the main pancreatic duct at the ampulla of vater and opens in your duodenum at the major papilla with the sphincter of oddi and blah blah blah blah.. APPRECIATE THE DUDE ATLEAST FOR SPENDING QUALITY TIME MAKING THIS BEAUTIFUL ILLUSTRATION.

Nelly Hoffman Don't be a dick, and google it. Shanthan's point is that the cycstic duct continues at a T junction, branching down into the common bile duct and up into the common hepatic duct, not the liver itself. Making observations and reviewing information is a very good thing so instead of you being the smart arse, review and contribut where necessary.

Although this is a very engaging and well-presented clip, and this has been said before by other commentors, some of the drawing is incorrect, because the latter diagram of the classic liver lobule shows bile present within a sinusoid, which means bile would be mixing with blood, and would also have to flow against the current in order to move to the periphery of the classic lobule. The narration also indicates all three portal triad components connect with the central vein, which they do not (bile ductule drains biliary canaliculi, and has no connections with the sinusoids). This part of the video ideally needs a new drawing, but it could otherwise be truncated toward the end at about 5m30.
